Some news...
Hey guys, I've started working on another big scene in the game. There will be three
such scenes in version 0.7, with animations and over 100 images. But besides
that, I'll also need to create 2 smaller scenes, which I'll do pretty quickly.
There's not much time left before the start of development for version 0.8, and I wanted to
tell you a bit about this update because it's going to be somewhat unusual. A
small storyline will begin with this update and you'll realize why the game is
called 'Unnatural Instinct'. You might have already thought it's just a random
set of characters, but there's a reason why the game is named that way.
Yes, initially, a small storyline was planned. I wouldn't want you to think that the
game will become just another boring detective or something similar - no. In
the game, just like now, the focus will remain on relationship development and
everything you currently enjoy about the game won't disappear. The storyline is
primarily needed to better flesh out the characters and give the MC some
purpose. Initially, I planned to start the storyline in version 0.9, but after
version 0.7, all the necessary conditions for its beginning will be met, and I
think it's time to do it. Honestly, I've been thinking a lot about this, and I
I think it will make the game better. In versions 0.8-0.9, you'll find out why
Jennifer isn't dating anyone, what happened to the MC's father, and some other
things. Phew, I've been thinking for quite some time whether to tell you this
because it's a little spoiler, but I thought you should know.
I'd also like to touch on the feedback I've collected from players. I'd like to hear what do you think about it.
The main complaints about the game that I've noticed,
apart from those who simply don't like this genre of games, are two: the
protagonist being too soft, and small variability.
Regarding the protagonist: You know, being 19 is quite a unique age. At this age, some
have already been to prison, while others still live with their mother, and that's
okay. And the protagonist here isn't some alpha-beast9000, he's just an
ordinary 19-year-old guy who sometimes can miss hints. But the protagonist will
change. I'd like to show character progression, something like starting the
game as a boy and ending it as a man. Before development began, I've been
thinking about this for a long time. I didn't want to make the protagonist a
standard alpha male from the start, but I did consider making him faceless.
Many developers, especially in Asia, opt for this approach, saying it helps
players better identify with the character. However, I felt that showing not
just a faceless dummy, but a person who changes depending on circumstances, is
much more interesting.
And the second feedback - little variability. Some people say that players have too
little control over the game, and I agree with that. Regarding why you can't
reject a girl in this game, I've already mentioned it, but I'll repeat it if
someone missed it. In most games, there are very few group scenes, it's more
like several parallel storylines where characters rarely interact with each
other, and there's a reason for that. Imagine you have a scene, for example, MC
+ Ashley + Nelly. If you allow the option to reject with any girl, then you'll
have to create three scenes instead of one - Nelly + MC , Ashley + MC , and MC +
Ashley + Nelly. So... a scene that contains, let's say, 50 images and 2
animations, would require roughly 100 images and 6 animations if you include
this choice. But there are a lot of group scenes planned in this game and if
there was a choice to reject the girl this would significantly, very
significantly increase the development time for future updates. Right now, the
only thing I could do is add a *skip current scene* button. And although this
is a distant prospect, I have an idea: after we finish the main part of the
game, we could release additional updates, for example, adding some storyline
branches, and maybe then add the option to reject the girl. But it will all
depend on whether you want that.
But there'ssomething that can be done – adding a bit more variability to previous versions
of the game. For example, in version 0.6, where Jennifer pleasures the MC with
her breast, adding the choice to do it between her thighs. Actually, I don't
have a specific plan for this, but I think something can be done here. I want
to emphasize that this is adding new content to the game, not changing old
content. And it wouldn't take too much time, I think I could significantly
increase the variability of the game in a couple of months. But you know, I
wouldn't want to add big storyline branches to the game right now. I don't like
the idea that players would have to replay the game from scratch or load old
saves to see all the content. Just small scenes that you can quickly rewind through.
Right now, I'm not working on this, I just want to hear your thoughts on it. If
you say a categorical no, then it's no, but if you find this idea interesting,
I think I'll hold a vote before developing 0.9 to see if adding content to
previous versions is worth it. But first, I'd like to finish 0.8, I'm really
eager to start working on this update.
Tell mewhat you think, and I'll get back to working on 0.7. There's still a lot of
work to be done, and I need to finish it on time. Have a nice week!
