I wonder if it will end the same way with the dev trolling players by pulling the 'it was all a dream/simulation the whole time.'
I'm going to guess yes, with an eventual 1:1 story conversion of the Renpy version. If so pass, eye candy is nice but gets old if you already know how the story goes. I guess I'll check back in 2025 and see if that's the actual case. It's when I also get a $2000 5090, may that will play it better as well without the constant 100% GPU ultilization.

why's everything so expensive in the US? Don't you buy the graphics card the same time with the PC?
I build my own PC's to save money and that will probably be the MSRP. A 4090 costs $1500-1600. Moore's Law is mostly dead, so now costs/prices just go up with transistor count. Gotta recoup the costs of that shiny new $10B machinery for each fab plant every new node somehow I guess (even when the added benefits will be less and less once it gets below 3nm).

If you need *ultra* settings simply for things to have proper lighting and color then whoever is responsible for this failure should never be let anywhere near such job ever again.
I get that software is unoptimised when in early stages, but this shit isn't just unoptimised, it must be poorly coded from the fucking ground up to look this shit and run this shit at the same time all while having NOTHING going on in the game world

By the time this game is finished the RTX 5080 will be outdated already. There is no need to worry about the current performance.

i dont know what peaple are complaining about its a game on a unreal engine 5 wich has inbuilt raytracing effect and expect it to work on a card from the GTX series / i have RTX 2070 runs smooth as hell

UE5 games runs smoothly on GTX 710 too, if *someone* could knew how to set up correctly Lumen and all stuff instead of buying random features on the unreal marketplace and put them all together. Unreal gives option to "scale" quality and set up custom scaling quality level (every quality level must be fine tuned HANDCRAFTING optimization code stuff)... But that's... a totally different game creation approach from the one that has been used here. :)

if they worked for a year to make it this far, then this is already doomed...

IMO the initial focus should have been totally reversed:
- first focus on animations and character quality, without JCM or other realistic join deformation options it will look like garbage compared to daz renders people are used to, and will make players question the switch to Unreal altogether,
- second - optimization, so you don't shut yourself out of customers right off the bat, make it run well on any device, including phones, then start increasing the quality, not the other way around,
- ditch the whole open world concept, it will only add wasted play time which will lead to frustration and abandonment of the game, no one is playing porn games to run around mostly empty environments even if they look nice (not to mention taxing on the hardware)

and optimizing something that is kitbashed together will be a nightmare, A LOT of work

basically - when people chose to play a 2d game (3d rendered), they lower their expectations a lot, and good renders or reasonably good animation will increase the enjoyment they get from the game, but when you start introducing real time 3d photorealism as a core element of the game, but then show poor quality character animation, bad lip sync, if any voice acting is even there in the first place, the overall experience will be just terrible

It's not as if they put all their free time into this. They have other projects too, too many in my opinion.
Getting started is always the hardest thing to do. And if it takes 5-6 years ... so what? If In the end a good game is the result, I don't mind at all. My concern is more about them being able to translate a VN structure into a 3D game.

The "Let's surprise Megan in the shower" scene would play very differently if they keep it in the game at all or would have to be scripted.

I edited my post to add reasoning to my opinion, development shown in the "trailer" is totally backwards (IMO anyway), and is something that me, someone who hasn't worked professionally with Unreal, but has fiddled with it somewhat, can do in couple weeks during evenings after work (if I could actually stayed focused on that task for that long)

in short - kitbashing together the open world is the very easy part (before optimization), the hard part will be realistic characters and animations - which is the MAIN expectation from a game like this, and I just don't see it in the trailer, and if they had the skills to make the soft body interactions lifelike, I doubt it would make sense for them to pour that effort into a very limited porn game market, it would make sense to just make a regular game, since the level would be RDR2 like, and if you look into what went into making RDR2, you'd realize it is impossible for indie dev at this time, the jump in skill from making renpy/Daz (including animation) to RDR2 like stuff in realtime 3d engine is immense

... I just don't see it in the trailer ...
That's also not in the alpha demo :) They just stand there and the sex animations look quite awkward and the 1st person camera is bugged and and and ...
There's a lot of design problems (including animations), for example the rooms beeing too big and empty. But these are things that can be learned and optimized. The technical aspect is not what concerns me. That's the most easy part to correct. Such an early stage never tells much about the end result, especially when it comes to the technical side.

The main problem I see is to make the world believable and playable. In this early demo there are a few hotspots to do something, but the play area is quite large. If you follow the original story to the letter, it will be very boring with the player running around from home to school and all the way back over and over.
While they had that great idea of just fast forwarding a day once in a while to try something else, I don't think they have the story telling skills to fill a world with content. I hope they will learn them soon.

If you look at a game like House Party, the play area is quite small. And even in that case the game had only very little content after it's first year. They started with a very little team and many people were not convinced that the game would succeed. But their team got bigger, they even voiced the whole thing with different actors for every character (I think by now it's about 13 or 14). At some point all the character models were reworked, the house redecorated and lit. They also introduced cut scenes for the sex scenes instead of the old animations, which can still be used, but are not recommended. What took most of their time was not the animations however or characters, but the story design. If you want a NPC to 'catch' the player while doing something, he needs to be there for some reason, while it would look silly if all chars just stood around and just waited for the player to do something. They must be busy one way or another. The team still tweaks the stories once in a while while adding DLCs with more story content.

I expect it to at least work on a 1650 if it's gonna look worse than a nuked reddit meme for fuck's sake, how delusional can you get??
