Mantis, what I'm saying is exactly what Luckzor is saying. This doesn't mean you can't extract the code (which is already out in .8 beta fashion) just that you can't go to the devs for it when one is gone and the other no one wants to work with.
Unless you're implying Nergal was vanished by Wootch for making this game (An Urban Legend???) then it is not a big deal. I thought Nergal had consent to make the game. If not, unless foul play is afoot, then get the code and use it as a structure. Do not just copy and paste, that would never work.

in my opinion you should not follow Nergals version too much, i think you should do a fresh take of the story, different but with some parts from the original story. i think you should do what you like as well, this to motivate yourself to work with the game, if you want to follow Nergals, go for it, but if you want to do something a bit different, go for that!

Google "Satanic Star" and it will get you some ideas. If you made that with layers it will be easy to modify. I use photoshop, have full Adobe Creative Suite. Fire of better for background.
