Yes. During the adventure you can decide per encounter or you can completely shut it down in the Settings page.
I have an opposing question, is there enough gay (mxm) content to warrant a play-through if your not into hetero content but don't mind going through it anyway to reach the gay content? I've been curious about this game, but if the gay content is little to none then I probably should not bother.
To be honest: don't bother. There are only two gay scenes (so far). But if you're curious, maybe try the gallery with a gallery unlocker? No idea how the gallery unlocker works, though.

VN Mode doesn't disable the map and management, it only removes the challenge by keeping the obedience of the conquered fiefdoms fixed at 120 and auto-winning army fights. Not 1-on-1 fights, mind you, to auto-win those you need to click the chicken button (as far as I remember).

Also, what happened to this girl after the quest? I promise to bring her along after I rob her mom's vault but the game has no mention of her whatsoever after that quest. Did I just drug her mother, kill the captain, rob everything and leave her there.

If you subdue the elf queen she should be in your dungeon after you conquer her lands. But you can't use any attacks other than defensive or subdue when you duel her or she dies. (Goes for all battles in the game.)
If you completed her quest line she should also be in your castle when you get back from the spy mission with the gold. Check the Palace and/or Holding Cells. If she's in the Holding Cells you'll be able to assign her to either the Dungeon or the Palace.

She should be in the palace grounds if you've succesfully recruited her. If she's not there, check the walkthrough to see if you've missed any steps.
By the way Doorknob22, the walkthrough currently doesn't specify that to recruit Domia you have to appeal to her sense of adventure rather than feeding her resentment (I had to go back and redo that bit). Might be worth adding.
