I don't think that a blocked gallery motivates people to play, in fact it generates the opposite effect, with a surprise effect it generates different expectations that when you get to the updated part it can be a disappointment, so in the next update the game may end up being left a little aside due to the lack of transparency and effort to achieve an animation that was expected to be a little different or personal position and frills.

For me, the correct thing to do is to always keep the gallery unlocked. This shows transparency and does not cause great disappointment because even if the new animation has not met expectations, it is there in the gallery to be seen without any effort. If you liked it, play it until then. If not, you have already seen it. This generates more interest in the game, at least in obtaining it and keeping it updated.
