I just hope they add some functionality to give the models some intelligence so VAM can be more than VR SFM. Even the most complex scenes are at best semi-interactive cutscenes.

Like there's this guy who has been making the Regolo Engine plug in forever and it allows the models to move around and interact with the player on their own, only he's clearly trying to make something work that VAM was never meant to do. It's like he's trying to get an AI to play the NPC's in Halo but instead of having the AI work inside the game itself to control the character, he's forced to have the AI to control the character outside the game with a controller.

I'm not saying the Dev needs to design complex NPC behavior in 2.0, just set up the foundation to give modders the ability to create.
They intend to create a real API for modder so it will most likely be possible.

What I'm only waiting for is a decent clothing system. What we have currently is way too limited.
Like that simple thighband that I modeled, because of morphs you can't have it perfectly straight and it ruins the effect.

So I've been trying to follow progress of 2.x and it seems they post sporadic updates on progress every few months. Is there any other place to track progress/release for the new version?

VAM is amazing for it's user-made content but that content also kind of hides the shit-show that is VAM itself. I really hope they clean up the UI into something more user friendly and optimize it to run better. I never had anything more than 45 FPS with a RTX 2080. God knows how 2.0 is going to run with Gen8 models.
barely get 60 on flatscreen mode with a 3080, go ham with some of the settings and it tanks hard.

VAM 1.xx is a single-threaded app so its been severely limited by single core clock speeds since inception. It's always run poorly even on the best hardware, and there's almost nothing you can do about it since even a brand new high end CPU is maxing out at ~5ghz, not much faster than an overclocked 7700k from 5 years ago.

It's a very, very poorly optimized application, thus why VAM 2.x is a pretty significant rewrite. If it means all old content is dead it will be worth just for multithreading and async. It will be a painful transition, but perhaps there will be some tools to help convert old content. I'm sure even in the best cases lots of stuff will be broken on conversion, but the bandaid really needs to be pulled because VAM 1.xx is a shit show and always has been.

Overview
The first 2.X alpha has been released! 2.X is the next generation version of VaM. This first alpha is meant as an experimental tech demo to showcase most of what has been worked on for 2.X to date. The UI and control scheme used in this alpha is just for this alpha and does not represent what will be in the beta or final versions of 2.X.

Well, current 2.0 Alpha works way slower than the previous one. It's huge in size and with speed of snail. VAM 1.x with thousands of vars are way more faster... I know it's alpha but it doesn't look promising.

Can anyone post the text from the Patreon post that says what's new in Alpha 2 and what the upcoming plans are?
