i looked, nothing else like this out there. there are other VR games out there, but they suck. it's not even a question of cost, they are just not worth playing. there are some promising unity games, but they don't support VR yet
that's correct you do NOT need it. the easier way to open this game without VR is open the VaM updater and at the top there is a button to launch the desktop version.

It works fine, not only do you get better clarity but you also get higher framerate when compared to Virtual Desktop (i'm just assuming that's what you're using now if anything) as you don't use Steam VR anymore, you can use any old USB C cable these days too, not sure if you need to opt in to experimental features to use a USB 2.0 cable though, you used to have to but it might be a standard feature now.

I have an Oculus DK1 from 2014 but beyond that no, i know the screens are great (same as Vive) but they have capped them at 72hz compared to 90hz in most other headsets even though they can technically do 90hz as confirmed by John Carmack himself, the main reason you'd wanna get a Quest is because you wanna play games wherever you want without cables, you can stream to the headset from your PC using Virtual Desktop but it introduces some lag and you need a 5Ghz router, Oculus Link provides a better experience but you have to deal with the cable getting in the way.
