A review from a newbie https://f95zone.to/threads/voices-in-space-final-sxrobert-vn.119065/br-reviews
(If a creator wants to write a novel then write that novel, and let your readers read at their own pace. If a creator wants to make a visual novel then make a visual novel that players can engage with as they choose)

While I respect your opinion, a Visual Novel is just what you get,
A novel is an established fictional work written to captivate and entertain a reader with a handful of common or poetic mechanisms. The purpose of writing a novel is to tell a complete story in any way the novelist deems fit.
A visual novel is the same thing.

It's not fair to the dev for you to interject your personal dislikes in a review. a review is meant to be impartial to a certain extent. (but usually never is) you are not helping if that was your intention, but I doubt that was your intention.

Odd to be called a "newbie" by someone that joined these forums after I did. While my post count is low, as I don't generally feel a need to engage in discussions in these forums, I'm certainly not new around here and that was certainly not my first review.

What I was trying to express, and apparently failing, was that the game was NOT FUN. Which makes it a bad game, full stop. Among the reasons it was not fun was an over-emphasis on "reading checks" like remembering a character's pass code or engaging in various QTE.
I crack open Visual Novels for a fun time. Sometimes that's characters, others it is settings, usually it is relationships, and the VN I get here I expect a healthy dose of pornography. This game has the porn, a lot of relationship, and sometimes the characters, but the mechanics the creator uses to ensure the player is paying attention to the text ends my fun.

... Maybe I did figure out how to express my issue. Thanks for prompting me to use you as a sounding board.

Final Fantasy XIII (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 [reviewed])
Developer: Square Enix
Publisher: Square Enix
Released: March 9, 2010
MSRP: $59.99

Final Fantasy XIII is a videogame released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It was developed by Square Enix. It stars characters. One of the characters is called Lightning and that is the main character of the game that can be played with a controller. The game’s story is about Lightning and a collection of other characters who must fight some other characters called Fal’Sie and save a planet called Cocoon. The story has a beginning and an ending and a middle bit.

Final Fantasy XIII belongs to the role-playing-game genre of videogames, more specifically a genre that some people dub “JRPG” with “J” standing for Japanese. Final Fantasy XIII was developed in Japan which would make this genre designation accurate. The game has things in it that other JRPGs have, such as leveling up and weapons and shops.

The battle system is a battle system. In this battle system players select commands for one character while other characters are controlled by the game’s AI. Players can manually designate commands or let the AI decide which course of action is best. There is a system called the Paradigm shift which is new to Final Fantasy XIII and it allows players to pre-program how characters behave and the player can swap these behavior patterns whenever they want during a battle to deal with different circumstances. Many people enjoy the Paradigm system, but other people do not like it so much.

Players have the ability to restart a battle if it does not go well which you may or may not find useful depending on your personal preference. You might also find weapon leveling useful but that’s only if you find weapon leveling useful, so whether or not you find weapon leveling useful is down to how useful you ultimately find weapon leveling.

You can save the game if you want sometimes.

The videogame has graphics and sound. The graphics are seen with your eyes and the sound is heard by your ears. When you start the game the graphics and the sound will occur almost at the same time, letting you know that the game has started. There is also text which players can read.

If you buy Final Fantasy XIII and like it, then you like Final Fantasy XIII. If you buy Final Fantasy XIII and don’t like it, then you don’t like Final Fantasy XIII. It has things in it that some people might enjoy but other people who have different ideas of what is enjoyable may not actually enjoy it.

In conclusion, Final Fantasy XIII is a videogame.

Score: N/A (Since a reviewer would use his judgment to give a game a score, a score cannot be given at this time.)
That, as you can see, is a useless blob of nothing (albeit deliberately so, to make the point). What Gunrock wrote is an actual review, doing what a review is supposed to do - letting me know whether the writer liked the subject and why, and judge for myself whether I'm likely to agree based on their stated reasons. You can't do that objectively, it is by its very nature an intensely subjective pursuit. The only form of "objectivity" that's actually relevant to reviewing is avoiding letting one's feelings about the creators color their view of the work, but ironically the people who howl about this supposed need for objectivity are usually the same ones review-bombing movies because the lead actress said something they didn't like on twitter or somesuch bullshit.

Thank you for your opinion. Honestly, I did not even know my game was uploaded here, so I did not see the review either. :)

Who wants to die in space?

Voices in Space is a very short visual novel based on the premise of dying on a space station. Nobody wants this, so the team works together to make sure they stay alive. The length of the game works against the creation of suspense in this game, however.

The setting is definitely something I would have loved to see more of, as being together in a confined room in space while being watched by cameras opens up a lot of possibilities. Alas, this is a short story and all team members have to fight for their lives in order to survive - which doesn't leave a whole lot of room for flirtatious behavior.

The visuals are okay to good, bearing the noise from SxRobertVN's earlier games. I admire the details made on the inside of the spacecraft and it almost seems a waste to not have used it to it's full potential. Story wise it's a fairly small conflict into a resolution with a potential sex scene afterwards. Again, nothing too special but nothing too bad either. The writing in itself lacks quality, but the overall story seems like it's a nice story to be told - albeit a bit too short.

I did like how the developer managed to sneak a mini-game in there, that surprised me. It wasn't doing much for the story, but it was a nice variation. If anything, let Jessie use her voice in space while she still has it.
