I don't know how to get these games to register my controller as player one. They only recognize it as player 2, 3, or 4. Playing with a keyboard is a pain in the ass.

You have to go in the settings and set up the options, keypads enabled, and set each button for P1. If it doesn't detect your controller then I don't know, but it works fine with my controller which is x-input, the standard for some time now, and openbor is pretty old, so it should work with older ones too.

I figured out the problem. I had a vJoy Driver installed that was taking up a controller slot the whole time. It was screwing up other games I was trying to play too. Once I uninstalled it, everything was better.

His patreon page. He has completed all four character's story-lines, and gone back and added better enemies to the main's story-line. Also he apparently made the "championship" mode to where you can select just about anyone.
