And regarding this game losing their subs? Man I don't know but this game was made this year. Near a 500 subs on patreon within the same year had already beaten like 50% of the ntr/nts creator out there right now.
You are right on that point. I'm not saying the game is doomed nor that it will lose all of its patrons. In fact, from what I've observed, it only lost like 5% of the total patrons after the last couple of updates; around 14 or so patrons, overall. Nothing that will affect revenue for the devs in a considerable way. I just used it as an example of how bad those updates were received, that multiple people, who were previously willing to pay in order to support the game's creation, simply decided it wasn't worth it anymore. Keep it in mind though that, even then, there could be reasons other than insatisfaction for those patrons cancelling their support--
I just think it's unlikely for all cancelations to be for unique reasons, since we're talking about a size sample of just under 500.
As for the game's rise in popularity under such a short amount of time
(under a year), I'd say much of it is being hard carried by the art. There's not enough content available for me to make an
accurate judgement on the writing presented, but I can still make an
educated inference--
it is mediocre. It starts off somewhat
average-good, then it fluctuates downwards a bit by focusing too much on the MC's daydreaming/fantasies, then it goes up again for a time-- r
eaching its peak, imho, on the nightclub scene, which I consider an amazingly built and paced scene, regardless of my opinion on the writing
. From there it goes all the way down to being mediocre again, the whole
trip arc being sort of bad all the way, and
terrible on the last couple of scenes. The art, however, remains consistent throughout;
pretty great.
As an example of my point that the game is being carried by the art I'll raise this: here, on this very site, we have
many games that would be
blowing up as much as Vulgar Reverie--
perhaps even more, if only instead of, for instance, having
Koikatsu-level graphics, they had such good art available to them.
Misanthropy comes to mind as an example; although the game in question is a pure netorare one, instead of netorase like Vulgar Reverie, its pacing and writing are pretty solid; build up and payoff well balanced, and delivery on point for the
expectations it sets. Misanthropy is also only a few months old... If it had the same level of art, it would likely be "
blowing up hard". Mind you, I'm not saying, as a matter of fact, that it is a better game than Vulgar Reverie, I'm just giving my opinion.
In any case, if someone is misinterpreting my points thus far... I do not think Vulgar Reverie is a bad game. I think it had the potential of being a
5 stars gem, at least for me. But, it turned out to be just another
3 stars meh game... Again,
at least for me-- to emphasize that this is
my opnion and not me trying to pass it off as facts-- playing the content we have so far from this game is much like being teased for hours on end with a sumptuous feast, only to be served fishbone soup with no seasoning when it comes time to
actually eat our meal.
