I agree with your rant, and i believe the people using the word in such a way have simply not seen or met anyone who has been somewhat far on the spectrum.
They simply don't understand what that means, and therefore fill the gap with something they know - random weird people.

I have to second your agreement, Waifu Academy is a very meme-y game and that's part of its charm to me but that doesn't mean that everyone meme should be accepted. And the meme of "autistic" being used as a slur against people who are behaving poorly really needs to die in a fire. Autistic people just don't deserve that.

I don't think the dev was doing it to be hateful but it IMO doesn't add anything to the game and is just unjustifiably cruel to autistic people.

I don't either and that's also why I emphasized how much I enjoyed the game so far. But I felt it should be pointed out since if no one points it out, the dev won't know.

regardless, I'm looking forward to the next update :D
No offense, it's because in a game with actual rape, vaguely offensive language isn't actually an issue. If you start policing language in a facking hentai game then you might as well just not bother anymore.

Policing sexual content in any form of Hentai or other fictional porn is definitely not okay.
But why should they also get a free pass on language ?
Of course they can go further than most other mediums since there are no children watching or reading - but that's where it should stop. Hentai is no free haven for any kind of language.
While i don't think of "autistic" as something really, really bad, i think it's fair to at least give Irphaeus a heads-up that some people might find it should be used with caution.

Yeah ok, this is absurd. Policing language is policing content, your telling an author what he can and cannot write based purely upon your feelings. That's not different at all than saying Rape or any other content isn't acceptable, it's just a different threshold. If this is valid than anyone else has a valid right to claim something else offends them and try to get it removed, because the only difference is the threshold.

First up, i did not "tell him what he can and what he cannot write". Don't exaggerate things please.

But let's talk about policing Language:

By trying to encourage the creator to self censor things you find offensive, you are in fact trying to tell him what he can and should write. You harp on about how bad autist jokes are, again, how many women do you think are raped every day? Are their feelings less important than those of autistic people? Furry jokes are offensive to furries, do their feelings not matter? what about white supremacists should they complain about KKK jokes?

I don't like Nagger jokes, I don't play games that make them. I don't like jew jokes, I don't play games that make them. But demanding that things conform to your opinion is a complete and total creative cancer. You ever see the South Park vs. Family guy episode? You're Cartman, once you force something to self censor because of outside pressure then everything is up for censorship. Comedians are finally figuring this out, they've realized if someone in the audience complains about being offended the best thing to do is tell the person to leave, because they won't be having fun but it's better that one person bugger off than ruin the creative freedom of the comedian.

Your first point is making me wonder when i did say anything about furry jokes being okay or anything. Like, their feelings aren't "less important than those of autistic people". Why would they ?

Your second point plays kind of into the villain / antihero thing i talked about.
Cartman can be asshole, because he does not need people to like him. In the same vein Otaku guy can be an idiot, because we do not play as otaku guy nor do we influence his decisions.
Creative freedom is a thing, and it's a great thing. Still, certain "jokes" are just for certain audiences. You can't get away with making fun about using asian kids instead of calculators like family guy did, if you want to appeal to a asian audience.
And to tell autists or whatever else to "bugger off" because they feel insulted isn't the way to go either.

But let's talk about the goals of our discussions here.
I'm trying not to make Irphaeus self-censor his game. I want him to notice that it could be in places considered offensive. And if he was not aware of that, and was not doing that on purpose, he then could change it. He can, of course, also tell us it's not meant in any kind of insulting way, that it's a different kind of humor, and he will not remove any jokes because of that. I'd also be fine with that. I'd still play his game, and i hope doctor can enjoy it too.

But i at least wanted to try and bring attention towards it.

Because furry example should show you - we are either care about EVERYONE feelings and censure almost everything, so our jokes will became "please laugh now" OR we're acting like crazy political activists that humiliate majority for a feelings (usually even fake feelings) of minority.

Do you ever have a kids (or at least deal with relatives kids a lot)? Even kids start to discriminate themselves and divide into smaller groups, creating their own society inside school. So such discrimination is a part of human nature and fighting against it is dumbest act we could do. And if you dig into history you would know that EVERY attempt to fight human nature, every attempt to "make a better human" by "removing bad traits" has ended with blood. With a lot of blood and suffering.

So - no, I would say that we shouldn't censure any kind of jokes as long as it still a joke and not a call for violence.

And as game already have "rape" tag - it's clearly for anyone that it HAVE offensive content. So if you're too sensitive snowflake - stay out of there.

Actually, in context, he was talking about raped women, not furries.

Censorship of all types is bad, and healthy dose of toxicity should be in a healthy society, I think. I, personally, dislike his manner of speech, like, "look at me, I have a degree and it makes me badass!"; It don't, the speaker rather looks like an ass, but, however, I still find the game entertaining.

i didn't go in further on the rape discussion since i was under the impression that i can be pretty much avoided through taking the correct decisions in this game.
We can, of course, look at it for other games as well, but i don't think we should spam this thread much further.

Certainly, I didn't think you were. I just wanted to emphasize that to avoid the appearance of hating on him.

This is a strawman, no one is policing anyone. We're just saying that memes that shit on autistic people are bad.

I don't consider fictional sex, consensual or otherwise, to be bad but I consider autistic mockery to be unnecessary and thus something worth criticizing.

You can disagree but this slippery slope fallacy is what's actually ridiculous.
