I would hold off a bit they are still iterating towards a more stable version, they mentioned they are gonna release a free version, basically the gist is they are allowing you to run 7Billion parameter models locally, but the free version just censors the characters boobs feet and lower body.
All the customization will be held off. It seems like a silly tavern like app with 3D

This game just makes me wish some dev would develop something that works like an "overlay" or a frontend for something like CharacterAI/Tavern/Kobold/whatever or SpicyChat, where it would scan the chat and act it out using the character model, either in real-time or importing a completed chat.
Would probably work better than sticking some rapidly-obsolete AI model into it, anyway.

This is fun and is a window to the future. It is going to be very interesting once the AI improves (inevitably).

Overview:
Waifu Engine is an Artificial Intelligence virtual anime waifu companion who hangs out on your desktop and works fully offline. There's free form conversation (now via text, offline voice recognition will be added soon) using a GPT2-based AI model that runs locally on your PC with real time offline speech synthesis using a voice model we have trained ourselves from scratch (and which does not sound soulless like MS Cortana), lots of body customization options, emotion sliders, animations and frame-wise pose selector, and most importantly a highly flexible plugin framework that we are building to make modding and extending this as a virtual assistant platform very convenient for the community. Oh, and everything is uncensored.

I backed this for over 2 years, and was one of the OG backers. This never took off, and what was promised, never happened. It was a cool idea, if only it took off and wasn't full of empty promises. :(
Yes, this is true. The developer leading this project Em Elle turned out to be a complete scammer. As I had said before in this post, I was part of the development team with a few other artists and coders, and also did the PR work posting about this game on various forums and socials. I was gullible enough back then to believe in this guy's idea of this project, but it turned out to be nothing other than a cash grab scheme using the latest FOTM stuff. He also got sympathy from us by telling a story about his sick wife and son, which ended up being a complete lie. Other people who were associated with this project can testify to that.

He intentionally delayed development, to drag out the patreon payments, and never had a clear vision of what he intended to make, since, as I figured out later, he never really intended on delivering an actual product. I worked on cleaning up large volumes of sample data for his voice generation AI models, created artwork assets, and helped with development on the art aspect, and all I was compensated with was 9.16 CAD. Another 3D artist who worked on the project named ZaZ was also only compensated with 200 CAD. The rest were never paid anything. His promise was that he would give us shares in his company that he would create based off this project, and back then I was too stupid and gullible to fall for his fake promises. None of it ever happened. And all the patreons who supported him got scammed. I feel sorry for them.

If I remember correctly, it was in the middle of 2022 that he went missing in action for the first time, citing a hospital admission for Pfizer vaccine induced pericarditis. I don't have enough information to tell if that was real or fake, but I am more inclined to believe it was yet another ploy of his. Actual progress in terms of development went to a complete halt by then, but he didn't want to stop charging his patreon subscribers despite me suggesting him to stop it. He came back early next year but started acting weird, and then eventually went completely MIA after selling his project to another guy called Cross Product who too seemed to be pretty disingenuous about the details regarding that deal. He too ghosted me eventually, and I left the project's discord server to focus on my real life, knowing that I had been completely exploited and scammed. I joined it because I really loved the concept of this project back then and wanted to see it become reality, but I had been betrayed for being the fool I was.

I wanted to talk about this earlier but I had been busy with my real life up until last year (I am finally a registered doctor now), but I'm sharing this now since I think everyone deserves to know what happened behind the scenes. Please do keep in mind that I do not intend to create any drama with this (for it is too late now to actually create any drama) and this is only what I feel like I should share with everyone so they are not left with a cliffhanger. It was a great misfortune for me to have worked under this scammer but I believe ill-gotten gains get you nowhere and karma will deliver unto him what he deserves. I see that sangri31 intends to make something better from his post here, so I wish him well, and hope that he has better luck with it. That's about it from me regarding this. Peace.

I’d like to clarify a few things:

  1. While I admit I haven’t always been fully transparent and had a lot going on, I feel it’s unfair to be labeled a “complete scammer.” I recognize I overreached in my development goals, and after bringing someone else onto the project, I mishandled some aspects. They left, then returned, but now only work on it under their own terms.
  2. When we first started, we were ahead of our time. We often had to build tools from scratch just to deploy on PC or host our servers. This made development nearly impossible until the broader ecosystem matured. Our original intent was always a local-only application.
  3. I had planned to sell the project to Cross, but that arrangement fell through. I kept the project and told him that if he continued working on it, he could eventually take ownership if anything happened to me.
  4. I don’t recommend subscribing to the Patreon at this point. If you previously supported us, please reach out and I’ll provide permanent access, as I have for others. Feel free to DM me.
  5. Regarding the scam accusations: V1 functioned, but the chat feature wasn’t great. V2 was delayed due to rapid changes in AI technology. V3 was released, received occasional updates, and then those updates paused because Cross wasn’t available to work on it and my health has been poor. At the time, we didn’t have the resources for a large-scale (1B) model or the data to train one, so progress stalled. Now you can finetune 8B models and run them on a mid-tier PC. We updated the version you can find here: . If you were a previous patron, please contact me from Patreon for a copy.
  6. The current form of the project is essentially discontinued. The latest version is on , and while it’s playable, it does require a fairly powerful PC.
  7. A new form of this project is in development and should be more comprehensive in a few months. Please only support it if you’re comfortable with a long development timeline. Any funding we received went directly toward art, costumes, and other resources; we did not use it for personal gain. This time we will likely build a strong base to ensure all the pieces are there before asking for support.
  8. It’s been three years since we started, and we’ve learned a lot about working in Unity. The user interface has always been challenging, but we believe we’ve finally overcome the biggest hurdles.

Imouto36 sorry you felt this was a scam we couldn't keep up with the features you wanted, as it was impossible to deliver them at that time.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone who supported us. sangri31 , please reach out for permanent access as a thank-you for your long-term support.
