I thought I should write this up, didn't want to ghost the community, thought I should let everyone know.
I've decided to drop development of the game, probably permanently.
Why? I had fun developing this, but honestly, especially with this last refactor, it was a huge drag on my life. I don't think the game needs to be totally dropped, so I'll share some of the notes and ideas I had before I delete the account. Hopefully this helps if someone else wants to pick up the game.
First off, the whole character system needs to be reworked. Was never able to tailor the development of relationships quite how I'd like it. I think a progression from acquaintance, to fwb, to gf is probably appropriate. GF unlocks exclusivity, but also merits it, so to maintain a harem, you probably should pay off the GFs you accumulate in some way. Idk, just an idea. Don't want to restrict any future developers.
I think most of the mini character arcs should be reworked. As it stands, not enough one on one action or scenes between you and the NPC.
Attached below are some character notes and future plot points. I really had hoped that I'd be able to see this project through, but I just don't think I'm the person for the job. Excuse any idiosyncrasies or shorthand notes, this was just the rough development sketch I used.
Thank you for all the support and feedback over the course of this project. Wishing everyone who reads this has a great life, and remember, always strive for greatness. There are themes and attitudes in this game I don't agree with anymore; I'm a much less jaded person now. I hope that if this game is ever remade, a more positive spin can be put on this. I just don't believe I am the person to do it.
