I have enough familiarity with RPG maker to know what I'm talking about.Such a "story" just needs to comment...
I understand your dissatisfaction with some aspects of this game. I have also known W&B for a long time and agree with some of your comments. BUT! It's likely that making changes to the gameplay is harder than you think. Maybe the author does not have enough time. Maybe not enough desire. Maybe he is focused on improving the quality of sprites, and postponed changes in the gameplay for later. We do not know for sure.
Maybe the author is a fan of old hardcore RPGs, in which the player himself had to figure out where to go and what to do. And he doesn’t like casual shit like Skyrim, where they show you on the map where you are, where you should go and what chest to look into to find the quest item. We don’t know that either.
I only know that in this game almost everything is based on logic. And exploring the world is rewarded with new scenes and dialogues. I have seen on the forum many times questions, the answers to which are so elementary that you begin to doubt the presence of the brain of the person who asked. Damn, is it really that hard to think? Just stop and think.
"What the hell? In the last fight, I could use magic, but I couldn't in this fight. Why? What has changed? What did I do between these fights?"
(all who read the forum or have encountered this joke now understand what I'm talking about)![]()
If your intent is to have people explore, then incentivize exploring by rewarding exploration (and not just with scenes). As it is, exploration is PUNISHED.
You are forced to go around on your own. Enemies will still mostly beat you even if you use the cheat room (at least prior to the introduction force-win cheat option, the fact that they had to add this really says more about the gameplay than I would ever need to in order to prove that it is garbage)
Suppose I go exploring. Suppose while exploring I get into a fight and am forced to use a potion. The potion costs 20 gold. In order to recoup my costs. I now have to spend the next 4 days sleeping and farming at 6 GP a day in order to cover my costs. FOR ONE POTION.
All that needs to be done to fix this shit is tweaking a couple of events, and changing some values in the database. But either the person responsible for making this game doesn't actually play it and is only interested in making scenes, or someone thinks that this shit is good gameplay.
After years waiting for it to become more playable, I don't really care which it actually is.
If they have to keep adding cheats to the cheatroom in order to make the game quasi-playable, they should just REMOVE THE COMBAT or make the whole game into a scene gallery. Because right now it plays like a shitty, boring scene gallery that punishes you for wanting to watch the scenes.
