This whole definition of cuckold has been made so wide that many seem to think it is a blanket expression covering all scenarios where a woman engages in sex with another man, with or without the knowledge of the partner (swap sexes as necessary).
But that definition should only cover the scenarios where a woman is using the situation to shame/humiliate her partner, the classic Hard NTR.

A partner who is a capable and confident lover, an active participant sharing or swinging with his partner, with full knowledge (not cheating), is not being cuckolded, he/she is a Stag/Vixen, a totally different description that has nothing to do with netorare or cuckolding.

Broadening the definition of cuckold is just a sign of mental laziness that has pervaded a whole group of people who quite simply don't understand the variety of the human experience, and are comforatble with a "catch-all" approach to their language. Its just lazy, and wrong.

Its like saying all f95 members are criminals.

Yeah personally I treat "Cuckhold" on a case by case basis depending on the content of scene. I don't even care what other people consider to be one or not. The way I like to play alot of these sharing games alot probably would say I am one since I rather watch than participate if it's a swinging scenario and only want my MC sleep with his partner ( on my main save). But I never feel like one so I consider myself one. MMF i'd probably take part in most of the time especially if DP is on the table

For me I need to feel like one for it to count and usually for me to feel like one there has to be some level of humiliation that isn't playful but almost demanding like she is stating to get into Femdom Territory.

It "could" be thought of in terms of the power dynamic involved, much like Dom/Sub relationships.
There is NOT always a dom/sub dynamic in all relationships. Sometimes (quite a high percentage actually) there is none of this involved. Sometimes there is. If you are the sub in the scenario (or you have given over control to your partner) you may well be a cuckold at that point. But if it is an equal control scenario, or you are the Dom, then you are not the cuckold.
Again, this is not a full "catch-all", but it is as valid as the "everyone's a cuck" thing, and perhaps a better way of defining whether you are or aren't...

The definition of the term has always been broad, hence why all of these scenarios fit into it.

You can apply whichever personal definitions you like, but it doesn't change what the definition actually is.

doesn't mean I have to accept or use it when talking about it. As long as I say i'm using a personal definition and not trying to say the actual definition is what my personal one is.

The definition of cuckoldry itself also relies on the commission of the act of adultery or infidelity by one partner or the other.
If there is no adultery or infidelity, then cuckoldry does not exist.

I guess we can all agree that dictionary definitions don't help. Words mean different things in different contexts. It's interesting that we have a term for the female "cuckquean", which actually designates a woman who enjoys that their partner has sex with other women and did not exist before someone used it with that meaning, but when referring to a man who enjoys that their partner has sex with other men, people fall back to a previously existing term that is, at best, "related to the subject" but was (or still is) used very differently.

A partner who is a capable and confident lover, an active participant sharing or swinging with his partner, with full knowledge (not cheating), is not being cuckolded, he/she is a Stag/Vixen, a totally different description that has nothing to do with netorare or cuckolding.
I agree. It's a completely different experience that has nothing to do with the humiliation, emasculation and female dominance that's (legitimately) enjoyed by some. We need games that follow the stag/vixen path to describe themselves as such, to see if the distinction gets some real traction. My guess is that a lot of authors don't care at all about these subjects and only add NTS/R to their games to appeal to a greater crowd, while the way they implement those tags show that they either ignore the difference, or consider it unimportant. When people try to debate in their threads, there's a loud crowd of NTR fanatics that completely misreads, or intentionally distorts what you're describing. The only sure thing is that there will always be authors who'll try and imitate to surf on others' success. I'd like to see stag/vixen games trending :p

One of the exact reasons I made this thread was to get away from the silliness that comes with the japanese word debates. As I've often said before - none of these concepts are contentious in english terminology.

If I described a game as the MC getting cheated on by an LI, you'd know exactly what I mean. If I described another as MC and his girlfriend partake in orgies, you'd know exactly what I mean. The only english term that carries some confusion is "cuckold", as it has dual use around here both as a statement of relationship fact; "The man's wife cheated on him, she made him a cuckold", and the fetish definition; "He has a cuckold fetish, enjoys watching/hearing his wife sleep around and humilating him."

I also try and get away from the ntr/ntrs jargon out of political strategy - having these broad terms which are often debated means it gives a much wider net for the instigators to dismiss content. If those terms didn't exist, the typical agitator would need to be more specific; instead of "iS nTr avOiDaBle!??" they'd need to actually say "Can the mc avoid getting cheated on?" or "Can the mc avoid watching voyeurism scenes of girls and other guys?"

IMHO the continued use of these words helps opponents of those themes more than it helps fans.

I agree with you completely. But it will take a long time before people stopped using those terms unfortunately.

As I have said, it's fine if someone wishes to use their own definition, especially if they inform others, or it is known that it is their own. The issue is when someone uses their own definition, yet tries to treat it as fact and even becomes hostile to those who don't use their personal definition. An example is the use of futanari which has been greatly expanded, even worse on this site because of the tag usage. It is commonly known that its use here incorporates dickgirls as well, however there is always some user looking to troll over the proper usage of the term. As long as people misuse and expand definitions, you will always have these kinds of debates.

Almost like communication relies on shared definitions for words...

As I have said, it's fine if someone wishes to use their own definition, especially if they inform others, or it is known that it is their own.
People are too big of egomaniacs, thinking their definition is THE definition. Worse yet, they think others care how they define terms in their own heads. Definitions of words change with time when common use changes, not when every individual seems to set their own meaning to a word.

This is why the broad topic of NTR is often off-limits (like politics and religion), everyone has their personal preferences and thinks everyone else is wrong. I know this is a blunt response, and I'm not sorry if it hurts your feelings.

Lol Johnny.... wasn't me who came in here shouting "everyone's a cuck"....but I do admit to replying a bit :ROFLMAO:
I know what they mean when they use it as an insult. That's fine (as far as insulting someone can be fine). It's supposed to be disparaging. But some take it as the literal truth in some instances too. It's the following logic: If you have a cuckold-fetish, you're a cuck. If you have a foot-feetish, you're a foot. If you have a findom-fetish, you're Johnny Cash. If you like Japanese words, you're a legendary samurai. If you have a scat-fetish, you're a piece of...

The problem is not ignorance about dictionary definitions and etymology, some don't even grasp basic English.

People are too big of egomaniacs, thinking their definition is THE definition.
The issue is when someone uses their own definition, yet tries to treat it as fact and even becomes hostile to those who don't use their personal definition.
Yes, somewhere here someone said 'cuckold' has always been a broad term. Suuuure, as much as 'netorare' always has been a broad term as well. But actually not though. Like many words, it started out with a specific idea in mind.

If any of these discussion will help in any way I don't know, but I'm glad we can at least have a conversation about it here. If I were to wish for anything though, then I wish for those in charge of this website, and tags specifically, to have to read all the various threads' (especially all those I follow/watch) multiple NTR-diatribes that pop up every single day in the afterlife. :ROFLMAO::devilish:

Yeah, but "cool" doesn't just mean "below room temperature"
"Sick" ain't always a bad gut
and "Fuck" doesn't really involve a court case much anymore
YGWIM.....? :sneaky:
Fuck English anyway, it's fucked

Except netorare though, that one's real. :)

Sure, all words are made up, but they also have a history. An etymology. You hear that often with other n-words.
heh that's the first thing I think of when people talk about cuckold and its meanings/uses.

Totally different feeling conveyed if someone in this thread asks me "Hey Johnny can you recommend any games with cuckold themes" versus one of the ree-rees "Does this have actual ntr or just that cuck shit?"

The second one definitely brings that hard-r energy
