Thank you for that. I've never tried Always Fan and might give it a shot.
I never really saw the NTS with Always Fan not sure if there is another way to get on the NTS path but felt like it started to dark. I was afraid how dark it could get if the first 30 minutes you can be such an asshole
I think AlwaysFan can go pretty dark but it requires a lot of doubling down on being an asshole with the FMC. I came late to the "party", only after the game was flagged as completed (there was an update since, but I think it was more of a hotfix). Spoilers ahead, can't be arsed to go through it all and properly tag, so consider this the last warningYeah, like I always worry why the "dark path" in games is so attractive.....anyone would think the dev is one twisted mofo
It's perfectly possible to play a love+sharing route and I found it satisfying. The "twist" is that you have to roleplay a bit like someone who doesn't care about Emily from the start, but being himself on a tight rope, wants her to pull her own weight, and pushes her towards escorting. Even if you do that, the author put in a lot of off-ramps so you can go back to the love/no sharing path - and that's where I personally think they made it a bit confusing, because it's not obvious the point at which accepting a relationship with Emilie will bring you onto the girlfriend sharing path and not to the non-sharing/harem path.
More than the kink of pimping out your gf, the girlfriend+sharing path is interesting because of how the characters progress - while your MC is busy making asshole decisions, Emily never stops justifying your treatment of her and dreaming about you loving her. When you finally tell her you do, and introduce her to your friends as your girlfriend, it's like her patience and quiet dedication were vindicated. Think what you may of how undeserved this feels, it's rare to find a game where the FMC seduces the MC, and not the other way around (in the love/no-sharing path, you get a much more "typical" story where the two fall in love on their fateful encounter at your doorstep and it's all romance down the pipe).
This is one game where I think a walkthrough (none available) or URM and a bit of bac-tracking may be necessary to get in the right NTS path. While the non-sharing path is easy to ensure (just pick all the loving choices on day 1 and you already can't leave it), the sharing path splits into progressively darker branches, and you need to avoid certain things if you want to have a romance path with sharing. Firstly, if you want romance with sharing and not to be dragged back to the love path, you need to avoid giving her what she wants right after the first escort night. I think the key moment is when you prepare to go out with your friends - only then, tell her you want them to see you as your gf. It's a bit silly, but admitting feelings for her before that moment will make her reject escorting, but from that point on, she's already come to enjoy it
Technically, branches are tracked with a NTR1, NTR2, NTR3 etc... flag. If you let Emilie know about the first escort proposal you set NTR1 - she takes the job and, from then on, Emilie trusts your decision and you can choose every future escort job she takes. If you accept a second job from that first person who contacted you, she'll be drugged, gangbanged and impregnated (NTR2), but you can still avoid the darker ends. Even pregnant by an unknown man, you can still protect her from the evil guys and likely play all the sharing girlfriend path exactly, the only difference being that on that night, if you don't let her go, she'll become pregnant from the MC instead. But later on, there's another decision where you can choose whether or not to let her do something that sets a NTR3 flag, and that's the start of the dark path, she'll be kidnapped. I never played, so that's as far as I know. I think even then, you can still save her but I'm not sure if, or how you can still end up together. And I'm not sure about the suicide ending, but I think you can keep doubling down on bad decisions and the story gets even darker.
Bottom line, AF is a game that features an exquisite fantasy mashup. I don't care about the dark paths. You can love and marry the FMC while pimping her out. You can get decent character progression if you take the sharing route, while the love route is more of an archetypal love (+ possible harem) path. And you can have a harem even on the sharing path, with Emilie being a true cuckquean, and pimp out other girls as well. If you care about realism... Not really the best example. But it's a good kinky fantasy story where the need for suspension of disbelief is not too unreasonable.
