Yes, I think that is correct for the most part. Orcs are interesting because I'm like 90% sure that Tolkien originally based them on Central Asian nomadic raiders (from a European perspective) like the Huns, Turks and Mongols, but they got Africanised when more Americans began to write fantasy.

Don't forget the dwarves. They come from Norse mythology, but Tolkien gave them long beards, big noses, a love of money and precious metals and made them speak a Semitic-like language... Not subtle.
