Risk management.
Risk either doesnt exist or everything is a game over.

Most rape games have no real chance of getting caught(outside of the obvious: walk in line of sight game over)
Nobody notice's if you are mind controling there friends and family.
Same for corruption games.
Nobody ever sees anything.

It kinda kills the thrill of getting caught if you cant get caught.
Granted getting caught by rng is equality bad.

I can understand why this is.
There are so many ways somebody can get caught the programming them all in is a nightmere.

Still i would prefer it if games allow me to accauly feel like i could get caught because i got careless.
Not because random chance, story plot, etc.

Milf next door is a good example of risk management.
You can get caught if you are too loud and not careful.
The risk of getting caught is entirely up to you.

Sure, the game is kind of dark and it was meant so that we had to choose between evil and lesser evil, however that feeling doesn't follow into the sex scenes.

For example in the prologue at the end you got the choice to pleasure Jezera, Andras or no one. If we followed the game logic, choosing no one would mean that both of them would give you a lesson, not that nothing happens.

Another example is when you get into the castle, if our hero was a bit logical wouldn't try to mess things up by trying to meet Alexia and it would make sense that the first scene between Alexia and Andras would be unavoidable.

With this I mean that the game gives a weird "window" so that the player may escape from a certain situation and this kind of opposes the whole theme, things like that.

I don't know if this counts, but nothing drives me more crazy then when your playing a eroge/anime visual novel that SEEMS to be going in one direction then suddenly just drops the ball and either doesn't present you with what you expected/hope for or it does but in such a way that it turns you off.

For example, I remember playing a game by Tinkerbell which featured a women having sex with a horse which I wanted to see because she was super cute and it seemed so wrong. But when I got to it, she is literally killed by it as the screen fills with blood. It was not what I expected and did nothing to turn me on (I'm not into gore/snuff lol) I've seen enough rule34 to know anime girls love horse fucking and don't die! rofl....

Other times I will be reading a story (sexy story lol) and it will building to something then BOOM drops or completely under utilizes ideas it introduced earlier.

I recall one visual novel that spent the entire time trying to avoid pregnancy, then the last 2/3 of it you do everything in your power to get the/a girl pregnant. It ends with you getting her pregnant "for sure" but never shows it or proves that you did with an epilogue or follow up sex scene with her pregnant.

Its like all this build up without the pay off or proof that you suceeded. Screaming I'm going to get prengant! doesn't count/not how that works lol.

Its like why base the entire game around a theme/about pregnancy then never show any of the characters pregnant!?
I agree, surprising twists are the reason why I love some movies, like Fight Club : )

Actual gameplay.
I agree, this thing is the most missing, in my opinion. The only thing that keeps players in a game is nude girls and sex, and some minimal gameplay to pull it all together. I think, gameplay that is interesting by itself, plus sex and some interesting corruption system, will be the bomb in the industry.
A lot of newer games just jump right into the erotic material. They either don't establish the characters or they make huge leaps in logic from what they would really do. There really needs to be more character development and consistent writing that corresponds with the character thought process and personality. That's why I love corruption/trainer games like Witch Trainer, 4 Elements trainer and other similar games.
The devs want their game to please the widest possible audience. That's why most games don't have "hardcore" stuff. [...]

I don't say that we should have rape, blood and abuse in every game but, you know, embrace your fetishes ! Don't be ashamed of them. As for the others, try to have a little bit more of an open mind.
This!

It seems that gameplay becomes a rare pearl lately.
Above that the story part is so "generic" in the majority of games that I don't even remember the names of the characters after reached the end, just "fuckdoll#1" "fuckdoll#2" etc
That's also why I love trainer games, because they have at least both gameplay AND give time to characters to introduce themselve, add a little story on top of that and you get the Akabur recipe.

Sadly, a game combining an actual gameplay, an actual plot and your favourite fetish is so rare that sometimes it doesn't even exist yet, that's why I'm launching my own game a trainer game with a deep story and characters who have a soul (more in my signature).

Consequent choices. When talking about actual gameplay, too many devs seem to think stat grind=gameplay.

The entire point of games (cards, dice, computer, whatever...) is that you make decisions, and those decisions have consequences. My pet peeve at the moment is when they give you a 'choice' of 3 different types of "maybe" which all lead to the same outcome via slightly different dialogue.

relationship building, i highly doubt you can fuck someone right after you've met them. it has to take time to build up the connection between the person so you could pop their cherry in the game

A game that forces me to take one girl per route...ROFLMAO... Wow couldn't get through that with a straight face, that'd be like missing rectal thermometers.

Character creation and customization, and a story that I can influence. It doesn't need to branch massively, but I need to be able to make my own decisions along the way still. Basically, I like to roleplay and that's why I need to be able to influence my character.

In one word: Freedom.
A good story is the key to a good game, but a game should be more than an animated manga. Aside from the mainquest/storyline/primary focus it should be the players choice where to go, what to to, who to fuck, who to ignore and the most missing feature: who to get rid of. More routes, sidequests, optionals and other freedoms are always welcome. And dont just stick to common things, you dont need to focus a whole game on specific genres, just add optional NPCs and sidequests to focus on this genre, a cheating slut, a domina, a romantic loveinterest, a murderee, a submissive slave, a few different fetishist, a family for the incest fans, if the setting supports it a few different monster, furries, nekos, aliens, whatever blends in... and you fit in most genres without changing the main story. Just make the persons unique and give them different likes and dislikes.

More difficult is the core...the perfect game would let you choose which gender the MC has AND prefers, which fetish the MC likes or dislikes, is the MC dominant, neutral or submissive (not only sexually, this can even be contrary), will the MC try to force his fetish on others, slowly convert them or only focus on those who share them already, ...but that would be far to much work for a single dev and i also dont think many straight devs could make an adequate gay route, think like the opposite gender or really understand what specific kinks/fetishes feel like to write proper textlines for them. Personally i am disgusted by everything releated to dicks or phallic toys and i know i could never write a story with such content, so i really understand why devs focus on the things they know, experienced or prefer themselves...its just, well, to many seem to prefer the same stuff, so the variety of contents is extremely confined and you asked for USER opinions...as user thats mine ^^

Devs wanting to follow their own vision. There's a surplus of games inspired by Big Brother, or Summertime Saga, or MILFY city... but I mostly love the games that have their own voice. Sometimes that's not what the community wants, but it makes for a better community. DeLuca Family comes up often as an example, but I'd say games like Battle for Luvia, Paradise Lofts, and Akabur's various games are all games with their own personality and soul. I'd much rather have that, warts and all, over a game that exists mainly as a vehicle for tag-stuffing.

It's hard to expect some ideas different users have posted here for one reason: devs are small dev teams.

Many of the things that can be done with small teams have already been done. Now we expect something bigger, that means bigger teams.

If anybody wants more realism and more freedom of choice, dev teams will have to put more hours on it. Remember that big games companies have big investors behind, allowing bigger games (and even with that, sometimes they're lineal Xd). Few on Patreon could achieve something like that.

For example, Illusion is one of the few companies whose games allow great customization. They probably have a larger staff than any patreon project.

And I personally miss games with realistic attitudes. When characters are so inclined to accept any sexual request doing some stupid favor, and you end with 1000 games doing the same, it's very boring.

This.
I don't think there's anything wrong with visual novels per se, but the ratio of VN to actual game on here is heavily skewed and I wouldn't mind one more platformer or fighter, maybe even some strategy smut.

That said, coming up with a good game mechanic is no easy task, so I get why the ratio is what it is.

I have a few gripes here.
tldr at bottom

I really really want story. A reason for the fucking. A relation of some kind. A good build up isnt sleep raping someone, and then they love you. A good story can make me play gay games. It can make me play vore or watch a scat scene. A good story with good interaction and the fetish at hand is digestable even if usually a no go. Ive been surprised a few times at what I would accept or endure as long as its well told.

Freedom of choice. This means that if I want a dominant scene here, but a sub there... Its my choice. Locking me out of a choice like that, with only being able to run an entire game as either or, and never both or none.. makes me dislike the game almost instantly.
Is there a girl I dislike?, I do NOT want to have to do her, because the furthering of the game is locked behind her content (usually in the form of = to get this item you have to get this girl to fuck you zzz). Both are lazy as fuck gating.
Hornztown is one of the games that even when handling it fluidly with sub/dom/gay/straight, its extremely punishing to actually play it fluidly, and that removes freedom of playing. The more you do an option apparantly the more you ONLY want that thing, No, i was just playing that questline, and now i have to spend 2 gaming hours reversing the "fluidness" so i can do what i want, rather than being gated away from it. I sincerely love that game, but how it handles this, makes me not want to keep playing it, because Im not free to actually be fluid, im being punished for it instead.

Actual choice impact story. Half the games that boast choice matters, only have exclusion choices. Aka, you can choose between these two girls, you cant have both, but you can play the game more than once to see "all" content. WHY? Choices should have story impact. And if choosing either girl only impacts what fetish they add, by gods dont ever do it. Id prefer you didnt include ANY choices at that point. Choice matters is, how does my interactions with a person end up. Do I grow my MC into something usefull/useless, either choice works depending on the game. Can choice exclude content yes, but if its the entire point of the choice, then dont add it. UNLESS its story critical.
A game that handles exclusion choice well, is dating my daughter. It makes sense that you have a one night stand with one person, and not 3. BUT on the other hand it absolutely handles choice impact poorly with that exclusion. Youre told it will have an impact... thats it, and then 10 updates later an impact happens that REALLY makes you think, so what now.. I would have prefered the other option (because at the point of the choice the only thing you have to decide from = which girl would you fuck the most, its literally all the info you have). Oh yeah... replay the game? no thanks. Then dev comes back and realizes yeah, that didnt work out well, so you can now choose later what your at start of game choice was. I know that linear games are very hard to make with impactfull choices, and linear games are the easiest to make, so thats why the exclusion "choice" started to make an appearance as it ads "gameplay" so to speak... even though its pretty much the very opposite, and removes content from that gameplay.

Moderation: This one is tricky. I do like sometimes to play games that go full out on the fetish side, but oh so many of the games do not have any selfmoderation when going into a fetish or even creativity.
Here is a pegging scene, and halfway through youre being degraded humiliated beaten feminized chastity-caged and pissed on. Those are very very different fetishes. Each and everyone of them. But in porn games, youll get at least three of them when either is an option.
There is rarely ever a medium or even light version. There is a destinct lack of "exploring" sexuality rather than full blown 20years a veteran extreme over the top fetishism. An instant forget feelings exist, and love of each other or the fetish/act are absolutely nonexistant, even in games where building a relationship first is a main part of the game. Man of the house by faerin handled light bdsm and loving domination pretty darn well, another that didnt go over the top was Cure my addiction, which handles bdsm/paddling/spanking pretty well (and i actually hate anything including giving/reciving pain), including the impact and effects of it, and a rather slow climb to more complex situations.
The 90% of all MCs or gay guys have monster cocks. Not just very well hung and would proudly do the helicopter everytime i get drunk dick, but the when you deepthroat me, ill be deep inside your belly, the "im tickling you tits from the inside when fucking" size. Breastsizes that would stagger a giant, and arses that are the size of a full blown maze for dwarfs. Ofc there should be bimbo games, and bigdick games, but its overly abundant to the point of me starting to opt out of them and only play those with very very very great reviews to offset the immersion break.

I know i write too much and too long so here is the tl:dr:
Story and interactions, rather than abundance of scenes.
Freedom of playstyle: Gating out options. ex either youre dom or sub, but never able to do both in same gameplay.
Impactful choices: Less of the choices that removes content, aka either this or that girl that implies choice, but preferably story impact instead.
Moderation: Too heavy into fetishes when they finally get portrayed. Too many different fetishes at once, huge anatomy etc.

Well, one of the things you learn early, writing fiction, is that novelists know how their books will end long before the ending is written. I'd like to get that sense from more adult games, that the devs actually thought through how the game ends or wraps up.
Its a very rare dev that actually has their story planned out.
