I would say that seduction ultimately works in her favour.
Corruption on the other hand doesn't, it "destroys" her.

Objectively, they can seem similar: untouched virgin => experienced mistress.
But the intention is diametrically opposed.

Romance can work with seduction, but not with corruption or any of the other options.
Ok, so seduction brings out what's there already, perhaps, while corruption takes things to a point of no return and hollows out the subject's moral core?

What I look for and what I end up trying, don't always mesh... I'm a sucker for well written and playable romance themed visual novels/games... Even if that means only one or a few of those characters fall under the romance story theme... If it exists, is told well, and feels immersive, then I'm usually a happy camper...

Now, is that the only type I find and end up liking? Not always, even if it's my personal preference... If a story is being told well, doesn't include forced NTR, doesn't go overly dark on it's subject matter, is entertaining, and put together well, then I can be just as happy reading/playing it, as something else that has romance in it... I could sit here and try to over analyze what I prefer, but I'ld rather just keep it simple...

I don't play/read Erotic/Adult Visual Novels and/or games to just get my jollies and move on... If I wanted that, there are millions of real life porn vids for all that... I want to be entertained, with a good story and/or fun game play... If a visual novel is told well, and the erotic content is slow to develop, as long as I was having fun reading it along the way, it doesn't matter to me... I don't seek out Erotic/Adult VN/Games for porn value, there is already too much of that... I seek it out for entertainment value along side some porn/erotic value... With so many options available, I will run into those I hate, those I dislike, those I'm neutral with, those I like, and those I love... Some folks think that the Erotic/Adult VN/Game market is all about the porn, and in some cases that is true... But there are many more that don't have that as their overall purpose... It's more like a side benefit... Even if that benefit appears more often in one VN/game then the other... As long as it's done well, unique, and fun to read/play, I'm all for it...

I have no favorites but if I had to exclude something it would definitely be mind control.
There is no conquest, no hunt, no reward. It's basically just sex with a robot at that point.

In general, I do not like porn themes as it ends up being the main force of the game that drives everything.
How to story goes, how the events happen, how the characters develop and how their personalities are.

I rather have the main theme of a game and then have the porn aspect being defined by that and not the other way around.

If the writing is good, sure. That's a tall order though. In games with mediocre writing and recycled plot (which is most of them), I would much rather have that dev just dial the fetish and depravity to the max so I can at least jerk off to it.

But no dev would know for sure if they are good or not.
And they can never learn if they give up before trying.
The marked itself gets stale if no one is willing to give it a try.
I had zero experience when I did mine. But I am constantly learning new things.

I like romance, that's pretty much all I play. I prefer lesbian games or games I can play as a lesbian if at all possible so I can get in on that immersion I hear so much about. I've tried other things they just don't interest me.

I don't like all romance though. I don't like forced paths or games with multiple women but one is forced like Dating my Daughter. There are far better characters, she is annoying as hell, yet i'm forced to deal with her. Before someone comes back with "well, yeah, that's the title of the game" i'd like to point out the devs' other game is called Melody yet she isn't forced on me. She is an option but I can get endings with other girls and stay friends with her. I'd also like to point out that DMD gives options for other women yet they are ultimately pointless.

Good Girl Gone Bad is another. It took too long to get to the content that I wanted to see while trying to throw dick at me at every turn.

The dev of Love, Sex and Second Base is making another game with a female protag and romance was one of the tags yet a forced scene had me fucking a guy I didn't want to fuck which instantly had me noping the fuck out never to return.

I didn't used to be fussy but I got let down by forced content so many times that I started to. With so many dating sim like games coming out of Japan it's not like i'm stuck for games to play either.

I've got that fussy i'm even deleting games I started to enjoy because parts of it let me down. Being a DIK for instance. It started off great but the only girls I was interested in aren't romance options so it went straight in the recycle bin and i'll never touch it again. The girls I had an option of dating just seemed bland.

So, yeah, romance and lesbian stuff but i've started getting fussy. I see anything I don't like and I won't bother playing it again.

Oooops we ran into a problem. You can only make 2 choices. :sneaky:

I like everything mentioned in the poll, except mindcontrol, if the story fits it.

I run into a similar situation, in general, each time I return to reading/playing these visual novels/games... There will be some new ones that show some real promise, and I'll check back on them way further down the line... Or there will be ones that finally got completed, that are either still good or complete let downs... Then there are those that take a millennium to put out new content or reach completion... In the last 3 years, there have been barely any completions for the ones I've liked... Either they were abandoned, or started over, or are still in production... I try a bunch of new ones each time, but again they fall into those same pitfalls sometimes... It's the nature on this niche industry in general, really...

I just can't get into the Japanese style Hentai VN/Games much... Either they use that X-Ray non-sense, or mini-game non-sense, or you get 5 minutes of reading while the picture doesn't change, or the text is broken English, or it's just a repeat of some other VN/Game, or it is too short, etc... I have rarely run across any I could stand for very long... Hence I have a tendency to avoid them... The Japanese just have a different cultural concept of visual novels/games, and it's a mostly corporate controlled "rush out as many as we can" industry...

That would be my take on it at least.

Yes but it does depend on the story. Making somebody a robot can also be interesting.

The Takeover for instance, is set in a dystopian future with an all controlling government. At some point you discover that the government has built a prototype machine that erases a person's mind and programs her to be something else (e.g. sex slave).
You have a mother and sister who seem loyal to the government and at some point you can chose to put them in the machine or not. That may seem ruthless but may also be necessary for self-protection. This kind of moral choice is something that's very interesting to me. As a side effect (?) those scenes are also incredibly hot...

In a way kind of like your game where you also need to do things (and I suppose more in future updates) that you (the player but also the MC) can't really stand behind. But are still necessary and make sense in terms of the story.

Seduction: Make a character find the MC sexually attractive.
Corruption: Make a character act against her values.

The terms are not mutually exclusive in my opinion, as, by seducing a woman, you can also corrupt her morals, e.g. by cheating on her husband and/or engaging in incest. I agree though, that in the case of seduction, the character to be seduced is still genuinely willing to have sex with the MC.

Blackmail and corruption in my opinion usually go hand in hand, as the character to be blackmailed in most cases also acts against her own values. In most cases blackmail is also used to corrupt a character step by step even further. E.g. a son or daughter who finds out about mom's side occupation as an escort, who threatens to tell dad. At first the MC may just let her perform a seductive dance, only to force her further and further into sexual servitude later on.

Whether mind control also counts as corruption IMHO depends the sort of mind control that is applied, it's duration, awareness and lasting effects on the victim. A mind control spell or drug, that lets a character act on the MC's will for a limited amount of time with no lasting effects, like a dominate person spell from D&D , is not necessarily corruption. A sorcerer casting dominate person to fuck a lady paladin to fuck her once, only to get his head cut off by a quick smite evil, when his spells ends, wont truely corrupt his victim - unless she somehow finds the experience appealing and decides to stay the sorcerer's sex slave instead of killing him, of course. A mind control drug, that irreversibly turns a woman into a living sex bot is absolute corruption on the other hand.

I've voted Corruption and Mind Control which are perfect forms of seduction in stories where desired person is a forbiden fruit or beyond normal circumstances and human powers to conquer. Romance is best as the sugar on top. I find it more interesting to arrive at that point via adventure and lust.

I find it interesting how what I enjoy has really shifted over the many years of playing games like these. When I started I really was in the more darker aspects of these stories or more clear Main Character controlled games, in which all the options just throw themselves at you. But nowadays I really just want to enjoy a good story, without always feeling I am playing a real asshole. So my favorite theme would probably be Seduction or some Romance. I still don't dislike Corruption or Mind Control, if both of them are well done and sometimes they can be written into a more Seductive Story. The only stuff I don't really want anymore would be blackmail or non-consent games or these very easy harem games, where any attractive character just wants to be with the main character the moment they casually look at their direction.

*Romance: Well it's kind of meh for me, I like novels with romance but when a game enters into the sex part... I expect something more kinky. Usually romance games are just kind of "I love you" "I love you too" and then a few sex scenes and... ending.

But well if it has things more kinky it's enough for me to play it. However romance isn't my favourite "genre" in adult games.

*Seduction: I like it more than romance, still not a favourite. It usually is quite grindy in the sense of "awaikening" the girl to sex actions.

*Corruption: I like this one a lot. It's basically making a girl go into kinky stuff so all in. However the most explored action of corruption means making a girl into a submissive slave girl that obeys you and every kind of sex you want. Would like to be able to make her into a slut that could even sell her body for money or that she could become dominant and be the one in control.

*Mind control: I would say my favourite one if done right. Personally I like mind control not in the sense of "fully controlling other people" but more like influencing other people so that they earn more kinks or act more slutty, things like that. It would be great if I could make the character more dominant or submissive with my powers.

*Blackmail: It can be interesting in some situations, however I appreciate that things can go both ways. If in a game I can influence, dominate or blackmail a character, I like that I can be influenced, dominated or blackmailed by others. It makes the game more interesting.

*Domination: The big meh for me, a game in which you have no problems or issues and you can't lose isn't funny for me. For me the "big alpha male" is really boring, I don't mean that you can't become one in a game but that the lack of challenges and issues is a big no. I want to earn a big harem okay? XD.

For me the appeal of the Romance and Seduction options depend on whether it's implemented in a way that's actually engaging. If it's just building friend/love score by remembering to chat about clothes or give candy instead of teddy bears or some other arbitrary choices then I have no interest in it at all. If it's dialog choices that actually make sense then I do like it. Unfortunately most of the games I've played do not do a very good job with Romance or Seduction so I tend to prefer the corruption/blackmail type paths for a lot of the games on here because they're just done better by that particular dev.

Hmm actually I like the mix of romance and corruption. Both alone for themselve isn't that interesting I think, except the writing is really good. The game Melody for example is more like romance themed, I think. That game I like very much and I even didn't even needed the lewd content that much. Of course I appreciated it but I surprisingly enjoyed the big romance part of the game very much. Maybe because it is not all cliché but actually you really talk with your love interest about more stuff than in typical romance media. The music theme is pretty interesting. I am not sure how authentic it is since I am not that into that kind of music scene, but it's very immersive.

I pretty much place all games into one of 2 categories. Fappable and not. I cannot fap to vanilla stuff at all after consuming so much porn, so fappable stuff has to have lots of depravity. Either power fantasy with domination/corruption/black mail/slave/mind control or full NTR/cheating. Everything else goes into non-fappable trash bin, except the extremely rare few that has good writing. Dr. PinkCake's stuff or DeLuca family are some examples of good writing but non-fappable. There are also an even rarer category with actually fun gameplay. Damsels and Dragons, Loren Amazon princess to name a few.

Unfortunately the vast majority of games fall in the non-fappable with shit writing category with boring gameplay, bad writing, and the typical stairway to heaven grind with vanilla ass sex.

I just can't imagine how romance is the most voted option, like we're playing these games for a reason and dare I assume it's not because we're all great at romancing women or have been in lots of romantic situations. I'm in the same mindset that the guys who casted Ron Jeremy are in, I'd like to think I have a shot with the women in the porno and a short fat guy like Ron gives me more hope that the women would do me instead of some greek god 10/10 with a 6pack y'know? Same in these games I'd like to think what's happening could really happen IRL and after a life or not much romance my mind just rejects that stuff as "it will never happen to you" as opposed to mind control and blackmail which are more realistic options.

This explains to me though why some of these games are so popular and yet I'm falling asleep.

I think "romance" is a more general way of saying "consensual", without mind control, manipulation or blackmail. You just win them over on charm, looks and putting the moves on. Seduction implies a bit more subterfuge, manipulation and occasional deceit.

It kind of depends, but well romance would be people falling in love with each other without lies or deceit. It is meant for a permanent relationship or at least thinking about a long term one.

However seduction by no means needs to be done by subterfuge, manipulation... commonly it is used for short term relationships or "one night ones".

Blackmail, manipulation and mind control can be (theorically, I don't believe it practically) a part of the seduction, but you can do them for many other different things. Mind control in itself means obedience or change, manipulation and blackmail are related to the objective.

For example manipulation is commonly used to influence a person to do something or to not do that. It doesn't mean that it has to be something sexual, in fact manipulation can be used in romance, for example when you like a girl but you see that she is interested in a boy and you say bad things about him. Does that mean that the boy doesn't want to achieve a romance? No, in fact it's main use isn't on seduction but rather on romance.

Blackmail can be used at seduction, however because of it's nature I don't feel like it should be linked with it. It is very direct and aggresive, so I would relate it to rape rather than seduction, because you are literally forcing a person to do something they don't want to do.

To end... mind control usually means imposing your will, however this is totally outside romance and seduction.
