What small little thing you personally hate in adult visual novel?

For example, I can suck up to a girl all game long and tell her to fuck off at the very end but still get stuck in her route because I have so many points with her.
This is particularly annoying in games where there is some kind of "light vs dark" or a "humanity" scale. You never look at someone the same way when you see them straight murder a person in cold blood. Doesn't matter if they gave millions to orphanages or . If that same person straight up murdered your friends or family in cold blood then you wouldn't treat them as a saint.
Character likes and dislikes such as musical taste, favorite colors, and hobbies, especially when presented in an extremely on-the-nose way, is a really stupid concept.
In a lot of games, there's this tendency for characters to have preferences and for those preferences to be changeable across the homogenized characters via a point system. So a character may be Lesbian by default but you can somehow coerce her through a point buy gifting system so that she goes from Lesbian to Bisexual to Straight. That breaks games for me whether we're talking about the demerits of the mechanics or the demerits of the narrative.

Large chunks of text that describe what going on in a image/scene.. Not like we are blind and need to get it spoon feed....

Binary "compliment/say nothing" choices. Especially if you get dozens of them per character. (Sometimes you get a third "horny" choice if the game has both love and lust points.) It's a cheap implementation of a score system. I would rather have fewer but more involved response choices, e.g. raunchy/humorous/serious/etc. like an actual dialogue-based game should have.

-When all the characters in the game are females it usually means a boring story

- the hey I just met you let's have sex for no fucking reason so the developer can say my game has a lot of sex scene type of game

-a characters with no personality that are only interested in your dick

-you are living with your step mother and step sister type of game

- any game with weak story or with no story at all

-Magic Cock: Panties fall and mom's bang sons b/c...magic cock. WMV is a prime example.
-Internal Dialog/POV Game: If you are going to do POV don't give me the internal thoughts of other characters. It breaks immersion! If you want to give me internal thoughts of other characters do a non-POV game! HATE THIS. Mr. Dots looking at you (and others).
-One Choice Menu Button: Stop the insanity. Mr. Dots is bad about this. "Kiss Her." Well, yeah it's the only f'n menu option.
-Huge Tits: This is just gross to me but to each their own tbh.
-Unrealistic Clothing: Come on...immersion killer. No one in an office dresses like that.
-Dead Parents (Father): It is just tired.
-Bleached Renders: No idea how this caught on as a good look but I think it looks awful.

My biggest annoyance is the need for mandatory walkthroughs. Some VN's just flat out give you a game over screen the moment you pick a wrong option. Other games are more insidious about it and hands you out points, which you have no way of tracking, and lock you out of the true ending if you don't have enough points.
If picking the wrong thing just gives me less content, then I would rather just have there be no choices at all. At least that way I can get to relax and just enjoy the story, rather than trying to guess what the creator wanted me to pick.
Lancaster Boarding House is a great example of the annoyance you listed here. The walkthrough for that game has so many numbers it looks like a financial document...
I fully agree with you about the walktroughs, but I fully disagree that Lancaster Boarding House is an example of that. :D

I think Lancaster Boarding House actually presents good choices in a meaningful manner. It does lock you out of content but that's the consequence of your choices, favouring one girl over another. Otherwise all games just end up as kinetic novels without any player interaction beyond clicking to advance the story.

My main problem is with sandbox type games where you need to spy on person X in location Y at exactly wednesday 8 o'clock to trigger event Z...

My main small thing I hate is being forced to use the mouse for navigating the game.

In most Ren'py games, 90% can be done with the keyboard but some developers feel the need to include minigames or maps where you do need to click with the mouse and can't navigate to it with the arrow keys.

Visual Novels that force you into going after a girl you have no interest in. When this happens I usually zone out a lot or get bored while fighting my way through her rout to get to the one I'm actually interested in.

I have only tried Japanese VNs and only a handful at that but I hate how front-loaded the exposition is. They are visual novels. Let the visuals do the work. Don't tell me that the MC's friend is a star athlete at school such-and-such. Have them invite me over and let me notice the trophies and rewards in the room so that I can reach my own conclusion. Let me take in the visuals you worked so hard to make.

While I enjoy reading manga in general, I hate that just about every series starts with a 2-6 page exposition dump about the world, the gods, the culture, the kingdoms, the technology, w/e. But it is ten times worse in VNs because of how slow and tedious the intro sequences are. Take a page from movies that hook you in. You start in an interesting situation and interesting things are happening. You kinda get what's going on but you don't know all the details and you want to keep watching so you can get your questions answered as well as see how things progress.

No more "My name is blah blah blah. I'm a student at such and such school/university. My parents died when I was 4 years old. This is my best friend blah blah blah. She's energetic and lively but a bit clumsy. Her parents are away on business so we're living together. She's been my closest friend since we met 5 years ago. Right now we're sitting on the front porch, taking in the hot summer breeze. The cicadas are noisy, as usual. I wonder what will happen at school tomorrow."

Bruh, an hour later and you've still not started down the path of what this VN is about. I think 2-3 hours is my record for a VN before I say "fuck it" and just download a completed save file. It's not even that I want the porn right now. I'm just not engaged what so ever. I absolutely do not mind all the anime tropes and cliches. I just loathe their delivery.

Heh. Japanese VN's are mostly time wasters pouring boring texts all over to reach tens of hours of game length. It's gal games first, a story with a meaningful plot last.

1. Character Inconsistency - Usually NTR games are the main culprit of this BS bad writing technique... I'm sorry but if a girl is a closed off religious puritan nutcase in one route, her character should be the same in a different route !! I understand that maybe she finds the NTR dude more attractive than the vanilla MC or whatever, but that doesnt account for a 180 turn !! She should be only SLIGHLTY easier for him, not drop off his panties on the first date easy !! Bonus points if the excuse is "cause he's black"... so I take it the dumb bitch never went outside and never seen a black dude before ? GTFO with that excuse...

2. Points system - Its dogshit !! Similar to the above point, they make no sense !! I can understand corruption points in MAINLY Corruption games, but if it has multiple routes (i.e AWAM), Lesbian points should be ALL that is required for that route !! Sophia shouldnt have to let black guys, or fat guys, or old guys, or homeless guys touch her to get "filthy points" to unlock options in the LESBIAN path !! Again if its a "make this dumb bitch of a FeMC a whore, than corruption points work great, cause the end goal is to get her fucked by everyone and their dog...

3. Illusion of Choice - dont tell me the game has choices, when the story is written in stone and all I get is a "difference in dialogue"... thats the equivalent of different color lasers ending in ME3 (only that part, as I was happy with the original endings after the lasers (synth, destroy, etc)... I hate games that are like "well the love interest is going to cheat on the MC, or get killed regardless, but your attitude towards it is what changes"... GTFO with that crap, a real choice would be "dont let her cheat", or "save her from being killed"... if your too lazy or strained on resources to do different routes, DONT !! Just advertise your games as a Kinetic Novel !!

4. BBC worship - just stop please... stop... Again this has nothing to do with Interracial, make any combination of people fucking you want !! just stop using stupid racist "raceplay" in the dialogue !! I know people will be like "hurr durr, there is more BWC worship in games cause more white protagonist"... except when its a white MC or any other race its always "damn MC you have a big tasty cock"... if its a black MC or random side character its always "damn you have a BBC"... see the difference ? leave the fucking color out !! who gives a shit... be classy like the guys make Starship Inana, the game has a black MC, and no one complains cause the dude thinks of himself as a HUMAN first, without caring about his skin color.

I have so many things I don't like it severely limits the games I play.

My big one is creeper MC's, usually male but a female one cropped up recently. Those that do shower spying, sleep rape etc... It's creepy, it's weird and it puts me off.

Teen male MC's. I can't relate to male MC's in the first place which makes getting into stories hard enough but when you have these shitty immature inner monologues staring at a pair of tits and ignoring everything said which several other characters stare at said MC while it does nothing but think about a pair of tits....... it's shit.

Magic dick. By which I mean those crappy incest games where the mother had had several kids and years worth of sex yet sees her sons cock and suddenly loses control of her own body.

Dumb as fuck female MC's. As a female, just like males do with male MC's, I like to get a bit of immersion. There are some awesome female MC games around, very few lesbian themed ones but c'est la vie. There are, however, a ton of dumb as fuck female MC games. Games like Road Trip, Anna Exciting Affect, Elena's Life, Lida's, Lily of the Valley, Katie's Corruption etc... Games where the woman does things so monumentally stupid it leaves you baffled how someone thought up that scene.

The boring as fuck family trope of mother with 2 daughters. 1 older that usually hates the MC or is indifferent and one younger that tends to be cute and loves him. It's been done to death for years now and there are still games coming out with so little thought put into them with setting like that.

My other pet hates are outside of the games.

Pandering devs is a big turn off. Recently seen in Sunshine Love by Mrdots. Scene there was MC's girlfriend asking for an open relationship. People complained, as they would, but instead of sticking by their storytelling and having faith in their own creativity they are scrapping the whole story line once again showing that enough complaining will win the day.

Too many devs change things on knee jerk reactions and while that may appease those complaining it does the opposite for me. If a dev doesn't have the faith in their own storytelling to try and win people over with it, why should I have any faith in them?

In a similar vein, fan voted storylines. I don't mind devs getting fans involved in little things like dresses, hairstyles etc... but when they have control over whole routes I lose interest.

I play these games to see what devs can create not what abomination a group of forum dwellers can vote into existence.

I've yet to play a good game that has fans in control of story telling. It always ends up a cluster fuck of nonsense with shit happening that's completely out of character for all involved.

Some people will disagree but I don't like having too much choice or my choices affecting the outcome of scenes. I don't want to be locked out of any content I might enjoy. I prefer having the illusion of choice with maybe some crystal clear branching (e.g. how you choose between love and lust routes in S.H.E.L.T.E.R), though I'd rather to be able to get all the scenes in a single playthrough.

It's especially annoying when the choices are unclear or don't make much sense. Like you didn't hold the door for her on day 2 and so you don't get to fuck her in the ass later on. If I want to be burdened with the weight of my own terrible choices I can look back to my real-life dating history, thank you very much, I'm just here to jerk off and not think too much about it.

My rant here shouldn't be confused with sandbox-type choices where, say, I can explicitly choose if I want to pursue relationship with girl A but not girl B (although I tend to just do it all, even girls I don't like). Having choice is good, getting locked out of potential content (especially when the outcome of the choice is unclear) is what's bad.
