Ahh, now I get where are you coming from, thank you for the clarify!

You are right, with your points about steam. Steam/Valve doesn't care for this kind of contend - for now.

I agree with you on everything, but:

SubscribeStar doesn't care either, that's also right - for now. But it's a fact that IC content is prohibited on SS at the moment.
And just because SS is not currently enforcing these rules, perhaps because there are things that are more important/urgent than this, does not mean that SS will not decide to enforce the rules to the letter in the near future - or be forced to do so.

We have to keep in mind that Ocean is full time dev, and the nuked WIAB patreon has pulled a big hole into his finances because only a fraction of his patreons have immigrated to SS.
Ocean was burned in the past because of this stuff with this game, so - at least I - can understand why he is extremely cautious what he is posting.
Yes, because many banks and finacial services have blacklisted SS.

You have a neutered game on Steam it will piss off people more, and many developers release their uncensored version on Steam, eg Midnight Paradise.

Steam sales are only a small fraction of money compared to Patreon and Subscribestar, though. That's a big income loss.
So?

Many dev release a different version on Steam vs SS (or Patreon, Midnight Paradise is a good example), remember this game is ONLY on SS, the reason they are going to Steam is for more INCOME. This game will make more money on Steam than it will SS.

its pretty much 1,5 year since last update for this game, surprised its not been given the abandoned tag.. wonder if we are lucky enough to get a update release by chistmas this year :ROFLMAO: or maybe the will come some more rework...
Eventually, I am almost sure there will be a rework of sorts. But on the 1.5 year bit, I just wonder how much content the next update will have. The more time it passes, the more expectation fans build. It will be extremely hard for Ocean to deliver.

Well, if all things went as planned, Ocean should have delivered it to Steam for checking by this week's devlog. So soon we'll be able to wonder how long it'll take for ch5 to be released instead, after we've thrashed out the meanings of the >4000 render update. There's been enough preview shots to suggest the story develops quite a bit. Lewd content with LI's other than Miru is unlikely in my opinion, more like heavy teasing/temptation. The NTR aspect won't make sense if Wilii can throw Miru away at the first chance. Only way I can imagine is someone getting way too drunk.

The only statement in the last dev log that goes roughly in this direction is that Ocean was 99% sure to get WIAB to Gog/steam for testing.

Nothing more, nothing less.

The testing for SG through steam has roughly taken 10(?) days - I don't remember anymore.
SG's review was "special" (since Ocean wanted the unrestricted pegi 16) he submitted it on March 28 for review and on April 5 he got the first negative answer.

WiAB - Chapter 4 - Devlog X
Hello,
First:

With Chapter 5 (the update after this one) I will implement the new main menu. It was supposed to be for Season 2, but too much relies on Season 1.)

I’ve previewed this one before:
1747841161358.png

And we have now created a second one. (You can switch between designs, and at some point you can unlock new ones.)

Design 2: (Ignore Season 2 and whatever else. This is just for preview. The gallery images were chosen by my UI designer. It doesn’t mean the Katie image hints at a sex scene. Just previews.)
1747841167501.png
1747841174111.png
1747841181115.png

Short version:
Moving WiAB to Steam and GOG will be delayed by about 3 to 7 days because I had to fix the cinematic and found another 300 renders. WIAB CH4 is ~4600 still renders instead of still ~4300.

Long version:
I’ve now experimented with and used the new cloth simulations quite a few times. About Four or Five clips in the cinematic use it.

If everything goes as planned, I can do it in less than ten minutes. But yesterday I found another nemesis.

I have this clip with Miru and for some reason the clothes kept desyncing from the character… As if the clothes were worn by a ghost, they just left.

It took me 14 hours to find out why. And the fix isn’t great, so I have to keep in mind that certain types of animations won’t work with it. (In Daz).

Regarding the extra 300 renders I suddenly “found”.

Remember this render I previewed close to the beginning of the development?

1747841194609.png

Yesterday during testing, I suddenly remembered this render and the scene… But where was it? I haven’t seen it in the update and for a moment I thought it was in the previous update.

Yeah, turns out I fucked up a jump statement and so the scene never showed. Then I would’ve realized weeks ago that I was missing some renders.

There was also this Leia one I previewed in the same log.

1747841214567.png

This scene had been replaced by this one:

1747841219986.png

I talk a little bit about it further down below. (The mood changed and the early renders were made before I finished CH3).

I had a backup of all the early renders I created on the old WiAB PC, looked into it and yeah… 300 renders I totally forgot about.

The good news: The update is 4600 instead of 4300 renders.

The bad news: I have to do postwork for another 300 renders.

300 isn’t that much… That’s maybe 3-4 hours… but since I did the postwork for 9000 renders (SG and WIAB together) I feel a bit weird.

It’s better now that I upped my cardio & gym regiment to 6 days a week, but over the past two weeks, my vision would randomly blur, and I felt extremely mentally drained.

But that’s just what Post work does to me. It’s always been like that. It’s never been this bad, but I technically did 4 ½ updates worth of post work at once.

I can’t do it like this in the future. I need to do 2 to 3 hours of post-work every Sunday. Bit by bit.

I’ve not been this close to the sun, since SG’s Chapter 3 was released.

The plan is to now finish the 300 renders in post work, do the last bit of testing so Steam won’t answer me after 14 days with “There was an error. We couldn’t continue. Fix it first.”

The game needs to run perfectly. I speak from experience with SG, every time I have to re-submit the game, it takes at least another 7 days. (They pretty much only always answered me on Friday’s.)

I had a distorted view on cinematics and how long they actually take to make. I've always thought I could create one in 2 weeks. But I've done the math on the cinematic for Chapter 4 and it takes around 11 minutes per frame at Full HD.

The cinematic is 1:45min long and at 30FPS it has a total of 3150 frames. That's 577 hours or 24.6 days of pure rendering.

That's without creating it, without test rendering it (worse case multiple times). It never feels that long to me because the days are such a blur. But damn.

World Map
In my free time (I don’t have free time) I started drawing a world map of Wollust.

It’s currently just a draft but as soon as I have it done, I will get in contact with a 2D artist to turn it into something beautiful.

It will be cute to have.

This is a good time to look back on the past year.
It’s been almost exactly one year since the current updates for both WIAB and SG went into development.

WiAB’s last update was in January 2024, and then I did the 2200 renders for SG’s Steam release.

And in June both games went back into development. I had redone the early WIAB CH4 renders because I went for an entirely different mood with the end of Chapter 3. That’s why I stopped doing two updates at the same time with two Daz windows.

In the span of almost a year, I’ve created probably more than 10.000 still renders and who knows how many animation frames.

If it wasn’t for the damn Steam/GOG preparations, it would probably already be close to 12.000 renders.

It only really hit me a few days ago because polishing and testing took so much longer than I’m used to. Even this WIAB update is almost twice the size of the biggest update I have ever released.

I need to be more mindful of this.

Especially if I consider what happened in early 2024 and what it did to me mentally. How it still echoes to this day.

That little flicker of anxiety is always present.

I don’t think that shadow will ever go away.

But there’s nothing I can do about it. I’ll continue as usual.

Here are two screenshots from Adobe Premiere of the cinematic. Two scenes I really like visually.

1747841230166.png

1747841234603.png

I'm not really satisfied with the cinematic, even though I'd argue I reached a new level.

It's my fault for not being more proficient in Blender and having to do it in Daz.

Someday.

This is the last log before the update. I will make another post the day Steam and GOG greenlit the game.

Then I’ll give you a small trailer + release date.

It's just under the wire for the orange tag. I believe mid-July is when it hits the 18-month requirement for the abandon tag.

Abandon tag only in the case of 18 months of radio silence of a dev. And as we see in the two weekly devlogs, there is work done.

And to be honest, Ocean gives a shit about the Zone or its tags ...

/e

Other members have taught me better, and I admit defeat.

Old post remains for the sake of context.

It doesn't have a date yet and will be delayed by another 7 days from the "scheduled" date, then it comes with these renders and a new menu to make things easier, good to know that I'll only play this game in July
