Truth is I’ve been burned too many times by people irl who go from being bullies to wanting to be “best friends” for me to believe that Elaine suddenly discovered an altruistic streak when the man she “loved” died and no longer was there to insist that she be an utter bitch to the MC. If she was willing to be so terrible to a kid who’d just lost his mom, moved in with his terrible dad, and had no friends... Why should I believe that she now is a better person than that?
Especially considering the timing of her change. She was continuing as her standard bitch, throws the MC out, then goes and learns the will conditions and is suddenly trying to be super nice to the MC. I expect she is trying to ensure that she gets what’s “hers” but wants the MC near so she can hear what he’s found out. “Keep your friends close but your enemies closer” and all that.
I think she originally had Bella there to help but Bella is either playing both sides or is out for herself only so Elaine doesn’t trust her now (perhaps Elaine is just becoming more paranoid). Regardless IMO Elaine is not someone worth trusting no matter how hot she looks in stockings.
And all of this is just me theorizing, I am not on discord so I don’t know what anyone says there.
