Can't even start a new game. I can get to the menu (but going to the music montage also gets me a rollback screen).

Where is episode 1-5? Game crashes when I want to start from the beginning and in the game folder it is missing as well.

I'm in chapter ~3 or so, and I absolutely hate the landlady/mother and the neighbour. Do they get better as the story progresses? Because between desperate and clingy, and bullying perv, they aren't appealing.

The sisters seem fine. The twin is bitchy, but 80/20 fun bitchy.

There's no "landlady/mother" in this game. MC's mother has been dead for a very long time.
It's not designed around hiding incest behind "landlady" and "roommate" euphamisms.

Dead mom's best friend then. Both fill a maternal role, same with the daughters sharing very similar dynamics to siblings.

I don't care either way, it just seems to be ubiquitous, like the whole step-brother/sister genre of video.

But the meat of what I was saying is that Monica and Zarah come off as very abrasive and annoying characters at the beginning of the game, and I don't know if those dynamics soften or change, or if it's core to the game and story.

Their personalities stay the same, you just get to know the full range of their personality.

The same goes for all the characters... Including some surprises (slightly cliched for a couple) that the MC and others didn't expect.

I may have to go in shorter bursts. They don't quite click for me straight off the bat, but maybe that eases. Though I'm seeing in some of the reviews other people don't like certain forced scenes/relationships either. But it's also one of the longest and most popular games in the community.

May be worth bearing in mind that the less interest you show in Monica/Zarah, the less time you spend with them later on (in Zarah's case, you can reduce it to hardly any time after about Chapter 4). Plus they go from being 2 out of 4 other characters to 2 out of about 15.

almost no one complains about "little" jenna being thrown left and right upon poor mc, and all that with her "shy, innocent nerd" look.
on the other hand mature ladies/milfs are considered as overly aggressive menace and enforced

If anything, she will be a little more restrained as the original version she came on a little strong regarding affection, etc. so there will be more options to rebuff her and she won't be as pushy as original Monica.
