The whole Patreon development model doesn't make sense to me. Why would I pay a monthly fee for a game (any game, not just a mid-tier porn game) when I can pay a flat fee when it is released? What real incentive is there? Yes we are helping the Dev make ends meet while they make the game they want, but look at some of the more successful (number of patrons) Devs out there. Their games don't just come out done, they are working on them for years. That adds up quite a bit in the total money spent on monthly donations for a single game. Way more than you would pay for a normal AAA title brand new day of release.
Yeah, that's exactly how it works. You fund the devs you like and trust to follow through, and don't fund those that you don't. And if you don't trust anyone? Don't use the site. That's legit too. It's like kickstarter, in that there are no guarantees.
I think there is truth in both views: On the one hand, it's not ment as a trade but almost as a gift (for small benefits). Developers like Eva Kiss are being true to this. She develops her games steadily and offers them for as low as 1$. So even if you support her for 3 years, you will only have paid 36$ at all! And if you want (and I do), you still can pay a little or much more to do the selfless patronage thing.
But other delevopers set the minimum bar to 5$ or even 10$ - some even at 20$. This is, in my opinion, against the partonage-idea. Is feels a little if a beggar (patronship = gift) goes: "Hey, keep your change, my hat is only open for 20$ notes and up!"
If they develop the greatest game on earth, this could be justified. But if it is only a game I play to spend some time, it is much to much to pay 240$ a year (on only party of one game). So I usually don't join any patreon that wants 3$ and more as minimum. But the 1$ and 2$-Patreons I join and forget so the developer gets a small but steady income.
It probably too late to make such a change now, but I would have preferred if she had resisted against the first intimate challenge. The kidnapper would not use the full punishment and instead just a painful but harmful demonstration, and perhaps one day without water. On the next day, the same challenge would be imposed and she would go for it.
Totally agree. Corruption means nothing without a little resistance.
