Abandoned tag had no meaning nowadays.
I stumbled upon this thread while cleaning up some old games on my PC. This made me look again at the last updates for Whoremaker:
  • Release 20 was in May 2020, when Dopefish was still releasing some new versions every few months
  • Release 21 was in June 2020, one month later
  • Release 22 was in September 2020, three months later
  • Release 23 was in January 2021, four months later (and that was four years ago)
  • Release 24 was in May 2023, more than two years later (twenty months ago)
  • The last message "Still Alive!" was in May 2024, a year after release 24, but without any new content.
I would not hold my breath for the next release...

But I do not blame Dopefish either: at some point, working on a game like this becomes less fun and there are other priorities in life. Many game authors move on to other things when their creative spark and their motivation start faltering. We are all human, and that's fine.

Real life has unfortunately curbstomped Dopefish for a while, and unfortunately he doesn't have a lot of time for hobbies. He does promise an update this year, though. (From the WM discord yesterday). There are also some community members working on additional scenes and the like.

He remains active in the discord, which is a good sign. He just doesn't have the energy to put a lot towards the game.

If you go back farther he had about yearly releases on average. This said it might be dead, or we might get another small content release by end of year, maybe 1 new character and like 5-8 events tops.

For context I was following this when it was only on TFGames.
