1) Story
2) Choice to influence said story

Oh I play porn games for the same reason as you, I just care more about high quality models/art than I do about the specific content of the story. Likable characters with high quality models is most important to me, as long as you have that I'm happy with any fetish or topic for the story as long as it's decently written.

But it is normally offset, not only by societal norms, but mostly by a mechanism which creates sexual distance with people who are very close to you. The "danger" is when people who are genetically close to each other are separated for a long time. Accidentally this happened to Oedipus as well, he was not aware that the woman he was arranged to marry was his mother because they were separated when he was a little boy.

Calling genetic sexual attraction well established is a stretch though. It's a thing that has been documented, sure, but it's still incredibly rare. Plenty of scientists are skeptical that it's anything more than pseudoscience. The fact that it occurs in a minority of meetings between long lost relatives certainly doesn't prove the existence of the Oedipus complex.

Either way though, that doesnt really have anything to do with my point. I'd wager most people playing incest games on this forum have never experienced genetic sexual attraction and instead have that inherent aversion to the thought of sex with their relatives. I'm not even saying that the article I read was correct, just that it's an interesting take on the popularity of the genre rather than just saying "It's the Oedipus complex".

Incest as a fetish has never done anything for me, I generally judge games strictly on how good the renders look, but I read an interesting article on the topic of the rise of incest in porn once that had a pretty logical take on why it works. In your real life, there are lots of people you see every day that you'd like to have sex with, but you know that you can't or shouldn't. However, none of these societal rules apply for porn. If a repair guy shows up at a women's house, of course they're going to be going at it within 5 minutes. And despite what Oedipus said, I'd wager most people find the idea of sleeping with their family members repulsive. So, if you make that repair guy the woman's brother, then your mind reflexively jumps to, "these people should not have sex." Just like all those relationships in your real life. So, weirdly, adding incest to porn makes it more relatable because it skews it closer to your real world experiences.

One problem with this debate is in the fantasy realm, all the relatives are attractive. In the real world, the chance your relative is a supermodel is low. We cannot tell how many people would be repulsed if that real world relative was a supermodel too.

you can only get heritable birth defects if one or both parents carry (AND pass) the gene. same exact way as with non-related parents. if your incestuous parents don't carry an inheritable genetic problem you're not gonna get it.

the reality is that the effect is very small, and only applicable when a defective gene is already present in the family. meaning you might quite likely have it already even without incest.

looking at it from biological risk perspective, I don't know of any countries which prohibit procreation based on parents having genetic disorders. on the contrary that's widely recognized as a crime against humanity. so in that light it's kinda weird how webbed feet etc. get thrown as a 'proof' of why incest is bad.

I don't believe genetics has anything to do with why incest is quite universally a taboo. I think it's two things, the related horrible abuse (real world incest rarely is the forbidden love story between consenting adults like it's in games), and our evolutionary disgust against it which prolly was meant to optimize away that small increase in defect probability.

the latter is something programmed into us, and probably can't be done away with. the abusive incest, I'm sure nobody is against outlawing and punishing hard for that. but between consenting adults? seems to be difficult to come up with good arguments against that.

I can only speak for myself, as I am sure most here aren't the same.

I simply never had a real family. The ones I did sort of know weren't anything I would want to bang. Think 60 year old grandmother who smoked since 12, got married at 13 to escape annoyingly religious family and later hated her husband, and children. Picture that woman in your head, that was the only family I really had.

I think my attraction comes from the idea of a family and my sensitive hormones. Being attracted to friends mothers, or sisters, and seeing how those families interacted vs mine, and how I wished my parents or siblings were like growing up.

This caused my brain to associate family and sexual attraction. Incest has been a favorite kink of mine ever since I discovered internet porn. Even then I would spend more time reading amateur erotic stories about incest vs pictures or videos.
