Like any respectable developer, they work out of branches before they merge it into master. If you check those, they've updated more recently.
Like Ducks said, you're looking at the wrong branch. You'd need to check the dev branch to see up to date changes. You can even download dev branch and play it. Though that's a little more difficult than just downloading a fully compiled game and running it with a single click, so most people don't want to/don't know how to do that, which is fair.

It's only a couple people working on it so they take a while between updates, usually 6-9 months between updates
