Hello, you amazing people!
This post comes with a bit of a story.
TL;DR: I finally get a chance to see my family, and I'm not bringing my laptop, so I won't be able to work on World's Crossing for about a week.
The story:
About a year ago, my supervisor at work retired. We had another supervisor brought in, but he kept walking off the site in anger. Wages were horribly low, and we ended up running a 7-person site on 4 people. Everyone was doing overtime.
The shortage of staff had been going on since February 2020, and then the whole COVID thing hit on top of it. Wages were so bad that no one wanted to work there, so we couldn't get new people. And being a security officer, I was essential. Couldn't just go home. So I ended up doing 60 to 72 hours a week for a period of about 8 months, until just this June when they FINALLY raised the base wage of the site. And wouldn't you know it, we suddenly had people applying, and we ended up filling the site. Imagine that.
That entire time, I had some vacation time saved up, and was trying to visit my family in Southern California. I live in Washington State. The people I was trying to visit were the ones who raised me. There used to be six of us. My grandmother and my grandfather, my uncle, my great grandmother, my sister, and me. That was our two households. Since being up here in another state, my sister also moved out, and both my grandpa and my great grandma passed away. So now, it's just the two of them left. And because of the staff shortage and COVID, I wasn't allowed to see them for the entirety of last year. I haven't seen them for over 5 years, and my grandmother is in her 80s now... I'm getting that growing feeling that time is of the essence.
So, starting tomorrow, I'm taking a week off to fly to SoCal and see them. I finally got approval from my workplace after having it denied for over a year, having to push back and push back this visit. Finally, I get to see my family.
I've chosen not to bring my laptop and portable drive, which contains World's Crossing Academy, because if something happens to it, I have no backups anywhere and the game will die. So I will be unable to work on or update the game for about a week.
And if you ask why I put up with this... well, I currently need the money. That's why the Patreon support is so important. The more of you we get signed up on the Patreon—even if it's only the $5 tier—the less I have to rely on my job and the more time I can spend away from work, working on World's Crossing Academy.
As for progress, it seems I'm a little slower than I thought; I'm halfway done with the final scene of Thursday, which is about halfway done with the remaining content of the week. You guys have been telling me how much you've enjoyed the quality of the scenes and writing, so I stepped it up a bit and am focusing on quality over quickness. That means more renders, less shortcuts, more progression, and in the H-scenes, lots more video loops. Unfortunately, that also means it's a tad slower. But I feel it'll be worth it.
I'll be back in town on September 2nd, and I aim to release the next four days of Chapter 5 to the Patreon supporters by end of September at the latest, and to the public by mid-October at the latest. It'll most likely be before then, but I like to underpromise and overdeliver if I at all possible. I have some great ideas for the coming days, and I think y'all will really enjoy them.
