I wish BD, as well as some of the other devs here, wouldn't keep putting deadlines on themselves. In my opinion, creative work and time pressure don't go well together. If time is running out, compromises are inevitable, and compromises usually do creative work no favors. In addition, there is a lot of unnecessary stress, which is not good for the projects and the devs themselves in the long term.

Do not fully agree, deadlines can help to focus the mind and force yourself to move forward also when you feel less like it, but there is a big difference between internal deadlines and ones you made externally. Last should always take into account the unforeseen and as such have a lot of leeway beyond your own internal deadlines.

Edit: Also important in this is the adagio of under promise and over deliver. If you release an update earlier as people expect they will always be happy, while if you delay there is always a slight sadness. :devilish:

I just think BD is a profesional. He's paid for making the game and want to deliver in time and as such put pressure on himself. Perhaps too much at times.

And his profesionalism is well appreciated in an industry were there is a lot of flakes. I respect him a lot for that, and for the game itself of course.

I can't personally but you might want to list some of your preferences. Trans or female Shauna, cheater or not, etc. Unless you just want any save.

Or just spend the literal 10 mins it takes to skip through....

Maybe you want us to drive you to work cos you can't be bothered doing that too...make your dinner perhaps? Shame too...it really is..but I just don't want to upload any saves.

No, deadlines are important, you just need to handle them right. BD has realised the importance of a work buffer, and hopefully also that you should aim to be done a few days before deadline rather than a few hours, so when things come up (and they will) you're less likely to miss it (unless it's something big, in which case we'll all understand anyway).

Go to settings, hit skip unseen text and skip after choices. Then launch the game, input the names and press tab. It will keep skipping all the way to the end of the game until you stop it. (it does give you a bit of motion sickness though)

I wouldn't bother saying much if these certain people actually gave constructive reviews and specific suggestions for improving the story, instead they sound like petty contrarians. Don't like WVM, cool, I don't some games myself, so leave your review and move on to find something you do like. But don't keep lurking and revisiting the thread to like every low-rated review, like you got some personal vendetta against WVM or Braindrop.

These are Erotic Visual Novels/Porn Games. Goal seeing many visually good sex acts with many ladies with a decent story behind them, that's entertaining and compelling. God forbid you let your imagination run wild.

The whole MC's a white knight/simp amazes me. Everybody's has their own opinion and interpret things differently, but after a while i wonder if we're even playing the same game. Assuming i understood these words correctly. How is MC a simp? When is he bending over backwards desperately trying to get a girl's affection and attention, who has no interest in him? A white knight? When does MC defend someone who doesn't need any help whatsoever? Ones i seen genuinely need some help. It's too perfect and unrealistic, because WVM has a chick magnet MC and doesn't blue-ball you o_O? Well, maybe blue-ball a specific girl , like a coach or redhead or future-manager/ex-cheerleader.

Guess it's a crime for a MC to be a kind person and wanting to help others as much as he can and not be a heartless scumbag. Like this saying, "Treat others how you would want to be treated". Also for MC to be popular on his own merits from the start of the game. MC is a star athlete, star athletes are generally popular and treated like celebrities, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that women (and men ;)) throw themselves at him. In context with WVM school being a lower tier team and MC a star player, that makes him a big fish in a small pond, giving him more attention.

Maybe these people are too used to other games where the MC is a self-insert nobody who goes around corrupting women by blackmail, mind control, and molesting them in their sleep to get the girls to like them . So what the girls like MC early on and the sex is easy, just like 80% of every other game here on F95zone, so why single out WVM? Games like "Reluctant Archon", "Sisterly Lust", "Depraved Awakening" and "City of Broken Dreamers", all these MCs are chick magnets with the girls loving them (Last 2 make you pick a girl to focus on). Is it because it's a easy-going story with an actual harem where the girls are fine with sharing the MC? For once not forcing players to choose or not some convoluted drama where everybody suffers?

Okay, i'll stop.

If we are talking about wishes, well I wish that posters wouldn't complain about updates being "late". I also wish the technology in weird science was real and I could "print" out my own Harper. Sadly neither wish will come true
Just Harper, or just Harper for this game? lol

I think what people who dislike this game find boring about it is the fact that once you decide to help a girl out, she's yours. There's no challenge, MC will always say the perfect words she needs to hear and she'll be at his complete disposal. There's no active flirting from the player, no wrong choices, and most female characters act the very same way, broadly speaking. Not unsurprisingly, those who show some kind of self-restraint for whatever reason and are still to be banged are the most desired and talked characters (Bailey doesn't count for "twins" obvious reasons). Then yeah, some people are just looking for attention and know that being extremely vocal against a famous game they'll get some reactions to laugh at. Pure trolling. Also, and I know sometimes is difficult to take a breathe after seeing some comments, not bringing those bad rating's comments to the game's thread would help to avoid those toxic discussions here. If a troll wants to troll, he's the one who should start the war here, the rest of us shouldn't call for him.

Okay so the last "Change of plans" was posted late at night and I was very tired but wanted to get my thoughts out, so I wrote it out as quickly as I could and I didn't go into much detail so that's the goal of this post. This is hopefully my last brain vomit post for a while.

Before I start with that I do want to mention that I proposed to my girlfriend last night and she said yes. I didn't plan to propose (Had another plan for it in mind) but I brought the ring just incase the perfect moment happened... and it did. So I'm now engaged and that's pretty fucking cool.

Okay, now the post starts for real.
After my hiatus I made a few changes that I thought would be enough to guarantee consistency. Those included getting rid of making a set of weekly renders, changing to a bi-weekly schedule, and changing from a hard deadline date of Thursday to Thurs-Sat.
While those changes do help it also kind of showed me what the real issue was... and I already knew it was an issue but I thought those changes would make it way easier to manage.
The issue is how I approach the work and how I deliver it.

The issue:
I'm not a robot. I'm a human that makes mistakes.
So with my current schedule and how I release things I have little room for fuck ups or basically anything other than the initial plan. It's super structured and if one thing falls out of place then everything falls with it.

Why is that?
When I release an update I release 100% of everything I have. Meaning the day after the update I'm back to square one.

Why is that a problem?
It leads to volatility. If I have a bad week then it basically always leads to a delay.
Another reason and it's a self imposed problem is that I always try to one up myself. "I did 180 renders last week, I can do better this week!" and that just keeps happening and the number keeps growing. When I first set out to work on WVM I had said I'd do 80-100 renders a week. Then the goal was 120, then 140, then 150...
I always want to do more and more... and that leads to delays because it only takes one fuck up to cause one... and the delay leads me to want to do better the next time and deliver even more. That cycle just repeats and repeats.
How do you fix it?
There's a few approaches. I could switch to a "it's out when it's out" schedule but I think I'd still have the same issue of trying to over deliver (see day 7 final).

I could stop giving hard deadlines but still have two releases a month. (This may be a thing, but not sure how to implement it)
I could build a buffer of renders so it isn't a mad dash for content after every single update and I can pull from it whenever I have fuck ups or need some time off for real life stuff. (This is 100% happening. After this update I'll be spending some time building up a stash of renders)

Set a soft cap of renders per update. (This is also happening. The number in my mind right now is 240 because I think that's a number I can reliably hit and overshoot a little to help build up the buffer. And when the buffer is large enough I'll have slightly larger updates.)

Conclusion:
A soft cap and a buffer of renders is the only path I see to me being 100% consistent barring any major tragedies. I maintain all the good about the work and updates while getting rid of almost all of the bad.
It takes some time to build but it's the perfect time as pledges are paused. It's kind of too obvious a solution to not take advantage of.

Other benefits of the buffer include giving me the time needed to work on some of the things that benefit WVM that can be a pain to work on mid update like building scenes, working on characters or custom textures, and things like the character sheet.

And finally news about the update:
I'm just gonna give it to you straight. The update ends in a mini cliffhanger currently. (The kind of playful ones I do on occasion which would be fine with the normal schedule) but I think I should see that scene through as there won't be any update past this for around a month. So trading a few days for a hot scene that wouldn't be seen for a month otherwise. I know my last few posts have been titled "I'm an asshole" but I guess it turns out I'm not big enough of one to hit you guys with a cliffhanger before going on with this plan.
The scene will take a few days, so the update will be out this weekend. Likely Sunday as I'm going to be celebrating with the fiancée for a bit today. I'm quite excited about things.

That's all I had planned to touch on. If you guys have any questions or advice feel free to leave a comment and I'll get to it when I can.

Love you guys <3
