I hate to use this example, but MB is a good example of Patreon/SS done correctly. Game is free, give money to support, and your support is rewarded based on how much you choose to give. Give lots, you get it earlier than everyone else.

There are some others too, Leaving DNA would be an example I can think of... He takes Patreon subs for consistent support, but he sells on Itch for those that just want to buy the content. It still ends up here, but later.

Patreon is not a method of selling stuff, whether it be a product, service, or anything else. It is a donation platform, that some creators use for exclusive content.

Not exactly.

There's a "quid pro quo" when subscribing to a Patreon. If you subscribe to so and so, in return you receive ...... Or else no one would be subscribing. Why would people "donate" money to a random nobody on the internet without a promise of something in return?

Scammers like Scamdrop take advantage of this site because Patreon is broken. That's why I only pay for completed and tell people to only pay for completed. What's to stop some scammer from creating a patreon, promises the world, takes the money and leaves?

Again people, only pay for completed games!
That is the thing, as my example above, it is a promise of early release, or access to the dev, or their discord. It could be exclusive renders, or a Q&A, or it could be absolutely nothing.

And the entire purpose to Patreon is because it is meant to support creators on a steady basis. Quid pro quo is, you give me (the creator) money, and I'll keep putting out content.

BD has absolutely lied, and I'm sure there are tons of other devs that have burned their subs.... But that's the risk you take when you're donating money to people. That bum on the corner may take the $10 you gave him to go buy a hot meal... or he might just shoot it up his arm. That's the gamble.

I'm not disagreeing that Patreon is being abused, in this case by BD. But that doesn't change what the purpose of Patreon is, which is monthly donations to creators, to keep them creating.

Subscribers subscribe for some form of Quid pro quo. People like Scamdrop do abuse the system.

Whether we agree or a disagree, my message still stands. Only pay for completed games!

That's entirely up to you, I think a lot of these other devs out here deserve support from platforms like SS and Patreon. Just be careful of who you support, and hope they aren't a scumbag.

There could be some good devs out there, but I am not taking a gamble. I don't trust most of my family members, do you think you could trust some random person on the internet? By paying for completed games, you actually receive a completed game and not a promise to complete. Any of the devs on Patreon can dine and dash, including the "trusted" ones.

No, I don't trust anyone as far as I can throw them, but I also don't put out money I need. I think of it the same as buying junk food....
Do I need it? Hell no.
Do I enjoy it? Sure.
Am I ok with wasting this 2, 4, 10, 15 dollars? If yes, then cool. If no, then don't.

As I said, it is no different in my opinion than giving that homeless guy on the corner money... He might go eat, he might just shoot or smoke it in 5 minutes. What they do with it is inconsequential. I decided to give that person money, in hopes they'll do the right thing.

If you insist on only buying completed stuff, that's 100% up to you. But you should chill on being so militant on it (just some friendly advice). It should not bother you at all what I, or anyone else, does with their money. It has 0 impact on your life, and all of these people are adults, making up their own minds on what they want to do with their money. If I want to take my entire paycheck, and toss it into the air, or into a fire, or give it to a game dev making a porn game, has no bearing on your life.

I don't care what you do with your life or your money. If you want blow your money on a coke binger, go right ahead. It's towards the morons who pay money and then complain they've received nothing. Oh well...

Even when they do receive what they are supposed to, there are complaints, that's human nature. You may as well go yell at a cloud for all the good your ranting about stupid people is going to do.

I will thow in my 2 cents, and then back out of the conversation.

While I agree with 95% of what you say, everyone can do what they want with their own time/money as long as it is not harmful to others, I hope we can also agree on the fact that being an enabler of bad habits/practices is at least frowned upon, which BDs behaviour pretty much points to.

I can agree with being an enabler is not a good thing, and you shouldn't aspire to do. That'd be the difference between BD and a homeless person.... I don't know for a fact that the homeless person is going to do the wrong thing with it, while I am pretty confident that BD is 100% going to abuse it.

And I likely should have used someone besides a homeless person, I should have used a busker on the street. I think it would have been more appropriate and largely more applicable.

So much for being "flat broke"

View attachment 4514257
This man is hopeless, BD makes fun of his cult in the face and they keep paying for the story, better than the cinema hahahahaha.

PS. for no one in particular, I just don't want to post another post.

So about this trans girl, EclipseTheStars, isn't it a bit exaggerated?
Yes, I understand that saying that suing someone is very strong. But where is the bad thing? Saying that you want to take legal action against someone is not illegal, or is it prohibited in this forum?

If so, I didn't know and I better say more or I'll be banned too, I just think that banning someone for that is a bit excessive. I'm just saying.

I'm amazed people haven't fought for forced refunds on patreon. Not with just BD but anyone like this clown.

At this point hes been promising a service for $ and not providing said service with constant delays and lies.

Then again Star Citizen still exists..
Not really much to fight when he's been offering refunds, unless he isn't handing out those refunds on the request, which I'm sure we would have heard about by now.

At this point he's trying to take advantage of the type of people that do monthly auto sub for something and don't care much if they use it or not or just forget about it, that's probably why he keeps switching it on and off around the time when most of the subs are renewing. It's also when any new subs would be allowed so he's also now controlling when the bulk of payments is done in the future.

End of the day people are handing over money like a donation for an unfinished product, not an actual finish gaas or mmo type of game. People need to scare him with drop subs, and since he said he's broke now(probably just another excuse), he'll probably be forced to get in gear to get the releases done(if it really isn't just another excuse).

She thinks that Braindrop (who was tagged) made a pitch to the moderators to wipe out everything from the situation.
I can confirm this didnt happen. We also clean everything thats a reply and anything in the conversation so the thread doesnt look like shit.

Eclipse was permabanned for having too many infraction points as well as the intensity of the posts. Frankly I forgot some rules that applied otherwise things might be a little different.

and tarnishes the image of their platform.
This is laughable, at best.

Oh well I had no idea about that... I guess if she had been warned repeatedly, i can't say it's unfair.

I thought it was just because of the comments about the lawsuit, if it was just that I would say a time out would be enough punishment but well as I said I didn't know about the other infractions.

Obviously people are free to do what they want with their own money (or as free as politicians in their respective countries allow them to be but that's a completely different issue). It is a bit annoying, though, to see ones like this which look as if they're never going to be completed having so many subs when there are loads of other very good looking games putting along making hardly any income for their developers. I guess some devs are better at 'advertising' than others...

People just need to chill out. After all these years, I am still waiting for content with Kimmy and you don't see me freaking out.:KEK:
At the end of the day it's just a porn game. If you don't like BD and/or the way the game is being developed, then just don't give him money lol. It seems like the problem in a lot of these discussions is that most people still don't understand what patreon is supposed to be for. But no matter how many times it is explained people still don't get it so it's pointless to try to explain it again.
Hopefully we can just go back to complaining about the duckfaces and the Azel cycle.
