I agree in part, with what you say. But the "fantasy" part is total BS. Because it actually works the other way around. The more fantasy or crazy setting you choose, the more realism you want in it. And even with that, even a fantasy world has his own rules, you can't just justify some parts of a story with "it was a mage". NO ONE likes a story filled with deus ex machina to the brim.

Which brings in the golden rule. He who has the gold makes the rules. He could also just say if I have to go to rehab I have to pause and then you can't pay your bills. There are a bunch of reason why they wouldn't or couldn't step in. I don't know the people he has around him. But addicts are usually surrounded with enablers and other addicts.

Look I don't know BD at all. Feel free to chalk this up as someone's random speculation. Though I'd bet real money right now that he'd fail a drug test today, and I don't mean for marijuana. I might be wrong but if the dev is a different person shouldn't he create a different Patreon account for the financing of the game ???I am just saying that is what i would expect if someone other than BD ever took over the game to make a new Patreon account
I thought this was a possibility at one point, because he seems so different and the development went off the rails. Looking at it realistically though I'd say it's highly unlikely. This game was so successful right from the start. How much would it take to buy it out? At least a few hundred thousand if it was me. That's just the starting point. If he kept a percentage of the game I'm sure he'd have the option to take the game back if the development wasn't to his liking or if the new developer was bleeding supporters. That's something you would do with someone you know and trust. Whoever this is sure as shit isn't trustworthy.

Unless it's a friend and they didn't want anyone to know out of fear of losing support. I don't think that's the case, but it's possible. As much as things have gone off the rails I think he would've taken development back. Unless he's getting money and doesn't care.
