Some players may be interested in a role-play experience where you accept the random-selected fate that the game hands on a play-through.
For some it can be helpful to have the optional choice to disable manual saves to remove the temptation to constantly "reroll" to get a better outcome.
Agreed, for those players who would prefer a more relaxed experience it could be interesting if the game created "key-moment" saves before or after major story plot-points.
I was more thinking about an experience similar to role-playing games where you have a permadeath option. (Diablo)
One tiny mistake can lead to a death who removes the progress players made in countless hours.
The underlying reason behind this mechanic is that "final choices" make every experience more meaningful.
