Welp, felt like trying out a game with yanderes for once... but the end result was disappointing for a number of reasons.
The biggest one, or at least, one of the bigger ones in general, is the MC. The guy is a total asshole with the survival instincts of a concussed lemming, which is a problem because, at least for me, he ended up in the position where I wished someone would just kill the fuck faster. This asshat has too many endings in which he actually lives, even if they can't be counted as good endings for a variety of reasons. Strictly speaking, the game doesn't have any good endings in any real sense of the word, but the MC doesn't deserve anything like that anyway...
I dunno, it feels like the MC being so unlikable and ridiculous takes away something from the story.
The other issue, at least for me, is that things happen too fast. The girls go from zero to lunacy way too fast, to the point where it seems impossible for them to have appeared normal long enough to get into this position in the first place. It might have been fine if it was just one of them. It makes some sense with Saki, given that she's been with the MC in any capacity the longest, childhood friend and all that... but things escalate way too quickly with the others.
Also, do other people + police do not exist in this universe? Seriously. There's so many plot holes in this that it further reduces any attempt at horror out of things. I'm sorry, story, but you're not making me believe that Saki somehow snuck around the MC's back while he was on a date with this one girl, while carrying a fucking chainsaw and staring at them like a stalker, without ANYONE doing or saying anything about it. Or calling the police. Japan is weird, but it's not that weird. Also, do you have any idea how hard it is to run with a revving chainsaw? It's fucking hard. She'd have zero odds of surprising anyone with that, those things are fucking loud...
On top of everything else, for all that this is supposed to be a game where every one of the main girls is supposed to be a yandere, there's a surprising lack of, y'know, girls murdering the competition, and in general murdering people for getting between them and the MC. There's only one scene where an attempt is made, and it just cuts out abruptly. Aside from that, nothing. If any of the girls die, is because of accidents (Saki), killed by the MC intentionally (Yuumi) or accidentally (Maika) or they commit suicide (Maika again). There's no instance where, say, Saki jumps one of the other girls when they're trying to get in the MC's pants, or in the middle of fucking... even though, timeline-wise, there SHOULD be some instances of that happening.
Which would be where I'd start talking about timeline and writing inconsistencies... but I think I've done enough to murder the value of this VN already.
Oh well, not the worst way to waste some time, but still overall disappointing.
Imma gonna drop the VNDB guide here too, while I'm at it, for people that don't want to search for it elsewhere.
