A question for people who know who the underlying game engine works, maybe... how much effort would DPC need to invest to make the mini-games individually optional? I had to go back and do a whole re-run with all those goddamned Gender Studies quizzes, just so I could play the mansion mini-game again.

Given that everyone will have their own opinions on which mini-games suck and which ones are fun, why not let us check-box each separate one so that we play these, but don't play those ... is that even practical in this game engine?

as of now for the first 8 episodes? quite a lot. I think it's at least a week of doing nothing but that. in the third season, since it's not even out yet, it's completely possible to add a "skip mini-game" button to the ones that are not timed, for timed ones like brawler it's a bit more difficult but still possible. but I'm not sure if DPC would want to do that. and tbh I wouldn't consider Gender Studies a mini-game, you just pretending to listen to someone's bullshit and some of the "wrong" answers are better than correct ones

The development times are not going to go down anymore... We are getting closer and closer to the dreaded one update per year.
He is not going to hire anyone, ever, ever, for any game he makes.

Now I have to watch Zoey or whomever these two rando fuckheads are working in a tattoo parlour? It's bad enough I probably have to sit through a surfing mini game in the ocean (dodging waves or whatever), but now I have to watch the drama of tattoo business like one of those mind-numbing reality tv shows? What does any of this have to do with B&R? I don't care about Zoey's backstory living at beach. I'd really like to see a preview render of the Interlude that increases instead of decreases excitement and provides some kind of purposeful link to the world of B&R beyond just: hey, Zoey is in it. Let's watch her sniff paint and whore around san Diego until she runs out of money and comes to the conclusion that she misses MC and and/or Neil's big dicks.

Some more preview shots and a good description of what exactly we are getting with the Interlude would alleviate a lot of concerns.

P.S. And even if you do get overly attached to these new characters, it's a one and done for all of them except Zoey. The entire cast isn't picking up and moving to B&R. You're never going to see these people again after the Interlude.

The interlude is used to answer questions from the past for the player and prepare them for EP9.

Coins example:
In the flashback of Neil and Zoey, you learn that Neil collects coins. Tommy has a coin, Bert also collects coins, and when the MC meets Isabella in EP2, he falls down and sees a coin as well. Shortly after, we learn that Isabella and Neil have the same favorite song.

Zoey has taught the MC a lot. Smoking, skateboarding and how to talk to girls. Probably the MC's first experience with women was exclusively with Zoey. What does the MC say about this? It's weird that his best friend is a girl.

I think that Maya and Josy's will be the closes to a Harem we get I don't see them being willing to add a other girl to the relationship but could it maybe. My hope is for crazy 3somes with Josy and Maya or Josy all to myself adding another girl like Zoey just might kill the MC. But that would be one hell of a way to go

What if the MC gets a relationship like Elena and John? Since their first threesome in EP6, we know that just watching makes Josy horny. Maybe Josy will also get horny when she sees Maya fucking another girl? Zoey would actually be the right one, because at least the MC has already fucked her. Maybe the girls already know each other and we only find out in Interlude. Only the MC knows once again of nothing.

There's certainly not much game about it. I would guess that for most players, that's the most boring one of the lot.
I like math and word games, I suck at the "stay within the lines" games as my cursor control is not good (nerve damage), and I'd dearly love to be able to play the mansion mini-game and beat the crap out of people without having to do all the others. I did rather suspect that the answer would be "too much work" though. Thanks for confirming.

We have the exact same proverb in England, but also the contrary one saying "many hands make the work lighter."

If DPC sub-contracted some of the drudge work out to other programmers, updates would be qiucker .. but if that's not the way he likes to work, it could only detract from the quality, and he's best advised to stay solo.

I'll bet the main premise is going to be Zoey working her way into the BIG surf competition...Ooohh, Ahhhh. You have to train up her skills in the ocean (mini game) while working at Hep B Tattoo joint and occasionally sucking off or scissoring your co-workers. And surprise, she wins the competition in the end! A close call in the ocean makes her realise she wants Neil MC back. Fortunately, she earned just enough money for train ticket back to B&R city.

Don't forget the skateboarding minigame, and there'll probably be a tattoo minigame as well. And a snorting meth game.

For the in-line (tests) mini games it is easy to add a choice to skip them on demand. For the other mini games, it wouldn't matter as you select whether to play them or not.

Well, where the fuck you got this idea in the first place? He didn't say anything that imply one episode per year or,more, He say what he always say. He takes his time, he is not planing to make the update bigger , but it wont stop him if its nessecary. Exactly how he operates now.

While Patreons, don't have good taste, and can ask stupid question, this place has no mach when it's come to making assumption that always negative so they can bitch about something

Honestly, I thought DPC's answer was quite fair. He acknowledges the problem of long production times, but feels it's better to take longer than to artificially shorten the episodes just to release them at a faster clip. That's a debatable position, but it's his game so he ultimately gets to make the call. At least he has been pretty consistent about it. I'm still not keen on the Interlude, but that's a separate matter.

But I never felt a lack of content in the earlier episodes. As a matter of fact, it seemed perfectly balanced and episodes came out in the sweet spot of 3 - 4 months.

The thing is, the game IS more complicated than it was back then. Even if DPC wasn't obsessed with cramming in more stuff each episode, development time would still go up just to handle all the different branches and variables. I'd prefer it if he put a higher priority on trimming the fat, but I think we'd still be stuck with 4-6 month updates for the foreseeable future.

I guess we'll see if anything changes when we finally get Episode 9.

So he's removing one of the two good mini-games and is making new ones? I get it, coding in RenPy is boring but you could, you know, make one good minigame and use it in every episode instead of constantly making new ones

The problem is that the mansion game was based on balancing the DIKs' repair skills against the ability to earn money. With the mansion repaired and the brothers all very skilled, continuing the game would be pretty dull. It needs to transition to something different to keep it interesting, at which point it's effectively a new game whether DPC calls it that or not. It's possible the new game could pick up where the mansion game left off. But even if it doesn't, I'm curious to see what DPC comes up with.

James leaves Bella because he's getting to close to the truth about the drugs and sex ring going on at BR and for his safety he leaves and takes MC with him. James/Neil use's his contacts to help MC get into college so though uncover work he can bring down the drug and sex ring.
