As explained in the note, it doesn't meet our criteria, we're not going to add the abandoned tag. We're not going to break our rules over the shady practices of a single developer.
So, just to clarify, as long as a developer "keeps in contact" or doesn't give official notice of the games cancellation, a game will stay strictly on hold. No matter how long the game sits without being updated, or how high the number of missed deadlines gets. Years can pass, and it would still be "On Hold"? That's very generous.

Well, at least we have official word now.
Yes. There are plenty of games out there (especially kickstarter, nutaku or other non patreon based games) which can release a demo then nothing until the full game releases, months, even years later.

As I said, we're not going to change our rules for single outlier cases like DF. The onhold prefix, the note in the OP, as well as the clear "last update" date is enough.

Apparently your rules need an upper bound on the ONHOLD tag (1.5/2 years maybe?). Posting a message on some social platform is a very low barrier that in no way guarantees any continued work. As the other person said, do the rules even consider the possibility of a perpetual ONHOLD tag? what about a new tag? ONHOLD tag for devs who stop payments or are sick is not the same as ONHOLD for being a scam.

The mod team was also very late to add the warning, while other games got sudden petty warnings about the quality of the game, while not even being the blatant scam this is.

We don't usually put any kind of message in OPs relating to abandonment issues, the only other instances I can recall are some Slonique games.

Why is it such a big deal to put the abandoned tag on it is the real question? I really doubt he's getting too much support from anyone on F95 at this point... and if you somehow are crazy enough to ignore the on hold and potentially abandoned tag that's on you lol. I actually love checking in on the madness of this thread!

Well, I think you should reconsider your rules. I predict it will get more obvious with time as more scammers show up.

Slonique's game still has the warning, which is far more aggressive than the one here, even though Slonique is hardly earning as much as this one. He is to blame for poor quality more than scamming:

I think people must think F95 is the adult games police, and as soon as we add an abandoned tag, the developer loses all patrons.

Slonique is far less obvious so needs more of a warning; producing games then abandoning them after a couple of updates is harder to track vs a single game that has a massive warning, an on hold prefix, and a clear "last update" date in the OP.

That's a valid point, yet quite easy to avoid (make multiple "remakes", claim to be working on a "massive years-long" update, work on multiple projects at the same time while never really abandoning any single one, etc.). I still think a little more could be done. A new tag marking games which suffer from chronic missed self-imposed deadlines for more than 1/1.5 year could help.

i cant say specifically to this situation, but in general, allowing exceptions to a rule for someone or something will lead to others also wanting exceptions to rules.

T-Daw is right. I'm sure gumdrop is well aware of the statement "A sucker is born every minute". Also, "fools part with their money" is another good one. If you support him, I hope you know that there's really no way to get your money back once it's paid due to the nature of the transaction. And not sure how people are okay with throwing money at nothing. It's just broken promise after broken promise. Put it this way, if gumdrop was your spouse and you've been loaning your spouse money to help with a "business" and in exchange for the loans, you're supposed to get some of the spouse's business products. Most people, after not getting the product after 6 months to a year, would have filed for divorce and sued for their money back.
So why haven't they? Are they suckers? A fool, perhaps? Think about that for a minute. Even a warning on a piracy site (Like someone who knows the spouse warning you about their behavior) won't change what you do. Honestly, the best way to get gumdrop to wake up is to find a way to reach to his patrons and those who pay for his habit to change their minds and stop supporting him. His supporters are like the person who tolerates a spouse taking their money for no good reason.
So no matter what this site does, it won't stop the fool from parting with his money. And it's not worth it to punish all the other developers who do work by changing the rules to give the finger to gumdrop. It's not worth punishing the rest of the devs to suit the anger in this one.
To fix this, either bleed gumdrop of his supporters or get gumdrop to change his behavior.

Wonder no more. After the last few...lets call them "spirited" defenses of GD, I would say this pseudo-intellectual is either a life long patron of GD, or far more likely, just a pompous jackass trying to look sophisticated, but only succeeding in coming off as a berk. Either way, blocking him is really satisfying. It's like....closing the door on a small yapping doggo borking at a shoe that gave it a frighten.
This is gold.

To me he is not a GD defender but someone who think he knows a lot and want to proof it here for whatever reasons ( not saying he can’t) just saying that it is silly and a total waste of post count.

Which is also what my post is too.

So how about getting back to the game discussion. =p

966 patreons to 844 patreons in one day.
Look at his history for the past months @

He been at 844 several times, and climbed still further and further. It's end of month, creators always get a drop.

Just look at DarkCookie, he currently at 18072, but his peak for the last month was 19851

Or someone with less, like PhillyGames currently at 1133, but peak for month that was 1188.

Sorry to shatter your illusion of the world is falling, its just the usual Patreon end of month.

Welcome to the end-of-month reality of Patreon...

Sam - Thank you for your clarifications, clearances, explanations and... well, all that stuff. It might not make full sense to everyone, but there does have to be a line, right?

OH. And, Yucca Brevifolia: Sod off!

If you're not being paid already you may as well consult Gumdrops on getting a wage sorted for you. The amount of hours you put in defending him you may as well try make a quick buck.
What defense would that be? Refute bullshit you don't even buy into yourself? Agreeing with you on what is actual facts? That GD proven all by himself, geeeze.

And what do you know. If someone tell me to sod off, I might tell them to keep play their tiny tune too.
