It's been a while since i played but i think you can only take it to her at a certain point in the story, if you have passed that point you can no longer complete the quest.

Ignore all that has been posted in reply to your request for the location of the hat.
Ask yourself instead "in what part of the hospital did I last see the hat?"
Chances are it is there. Now, ask yourself a second question "would a person put the hat on the floor or a hospital gurney or would they use something like a chair?"
Ask yourself a third question "do I have enough information to find the hat?"
Your posts tell me that you have some problems with the difficulty of this game, maybe this is more your speed?
