Is a laptop an absolute must? The issue is that laptop GPUs are always goings to have worse performance due to size and heat constraints. Thus limiting your rendering speed. The only way I'd say a laptop would be okay with rendering is if you're using an eGPU. Which are expensive, and still take nearly 25% of performance away. As for HDD/SSD, neither is going to change the speed much. Daz doesn't seem to really care at all about one or the other (from the testing I've seen, there's seconds of difference between them), though YMMV.

The issue is that a good laptop is $1500+ and an eGPU with a capable GPU in it going to run you around $1000+. You can get a very high-end system with that amount.

That all said, if you insist on getting a laptop to render with, go with the highest end GPU you can find in your budget. Preferably a 3080/4080 (not too sure if they make 90-class GPUs for laptops, tbh.). VRAM should be your focus when looking for a rendering machine, laptop or desktop.

Get a desktop with 32 GB of RAM and a RTX 3060 with 12 GB of RAM. In terms of price performance ratio it's the best card right now I think. It's like 400 dollars right now I think. The speediest card won't help if it doesn't have enough RAM to fit the scene in it, so an 8GB card won't do you much good (Windows also uses like 2 GB unless you use a CPU with integrated graphics and connect your monitor to it) and assets keep increasing in size. Back in the day you could get a decent looking model for Victoria 4 in about 50 MB and now a human character takes up hundreds of MB. Add to that hair, suits and the environment and you can see how easy it is to run out of video memory. As for the CPU an i5 is enough.

for what it's worth, a PC is much easier to use, but...
I bought a used Razer 15 Advanced with an Nvidia GTX1070 last year for working with DAZ.
I'm pretty much satisfied with the quality of it. Razer has newer and more powerful laptops now, but I was shopping with a fixed budget for a quality laptop, so a used one fit my needs. After considering other brands and investigating their comparable reliability, I always ended up circling around again to Razer. New Razor laptops are expensive but if your budget allows, they are a premium product. The only thing that was a concern was mine got hot while rendering, so I put new thermal paste on the CPU and GPU and replaced the stock thermal pads on the VDRAM.
recommended specs:
Nvidia GTX 10XX or RTX 30XX with at least 8GB+ of VRAM
8th Gen or newer Intel processors with at least 6 cores or more
32 GB of DDRAM
at least 1+TB SSD
I'm using a USB3 portable drive for extra storage as well, it works for now, but with 4TB M2's getting less expesive I'm planing on upgrading mine.

Hi Guys,

i've read from some people that my renders are streched.

hmmm, i mean well how so ?

???

Basicly what i can say is that i'm rendering with Daz Full HD images 1080 pixels (1920X1080) with a 16/9 ratio

Full_HD_1080p_16dot9ratio.jpg

i'm trying to use mostly HD materials, skin textures, Iray stuff...

i must confess that i do like some close up views

is it really a bad habit or bad thing ?, what do you guys think ?

It'd help to see what context in which they said it, to be honest. The image itself doesn't seem to be stretched, as you mentioned, so I doubt it's that.

My guess is the texture around the nipples (for this image). The textures are being stretched there, which result in a lower quality, and it's quite noticeable. They could also be referring to composition. Everything is zoomed in, and the entire image is filled, leaving no room to breathe. It's fine to have some close up shots, but in cases like the above, everything cut off and filled with little separation, which might be described as a 'stretched' look by some.

Thank you for your comment and your time Miss,

and what about this second render, do you prefer it ?

(i wasn't happy with the right hand of the Female character, too twisted in an unatural way, i corrected it in the previous close up render)

Hi,

Beyond rendering purposes, is there a point to get Genesis 9? I will use characters in real time (which mean a blender conversion and loss of Iray), so does topology make a big difference? Does the rig is more functionnal? Those kind of good points.
I'm using Blender Eevee with imported DAZ characters as well, and looked into it a bit when gen 9 was released:

There is 0 reason to use gen 9. The mesh has higher base vertices without any noticable difference from gen 8, just putting more load on your scene for no reason. Same with 8k textures, they are massive overkill. Even on very close-ups you barely see any difference and at that point you should be using tilable micro details maps to get more details in instead of using massively overflated maps.

Rig has more bones but I couldn't really see why. I convert their rig to riggify armature anyway, just easier to use (And I use a different rig for the face as well).

Combined that with the whole gen 9 having issues with importing using Diffeomorphic, and there is just no point.

2 questions, How do I combine 2 geo shells?? I have a pussy gen and fender bender and oil gen. How do I combine pussy and fender bander??

Second, how do I fix the those folding around the ass with my thiccer characters 1699917249799.png 1699917277994.png 1699917289332.png

It may not be necessary to combine the geoshells, geoshells can be stacked on top of one another according to a feature in this product "Ultimate skin moisture 2 pro" (Renderotica)

for your 2nd question, have you tried to apply a smoothing modifier yet? and adjusting that value? you can turn it off again if the model does not require such akward bends.

as to your 1st question, is the problem that using 2 geoshells causes one or both to go completely white?

To combine them you need to run shell fixv2 script. Add the gens of your choice, add fender bender, and then run your shell script on the gens geoshell. After that add the oil geoshell. It should work after that.

As for bends, you have three options. The first one would be to use blender and sculpt it until it looks right, the second would be to use bend control should have some sliders to help fix it and the last would be to tone down the morphs you are using a

The normal/easy answer here would be to play around with the JCMs, but don't think it'd do much for figures that exaggerated.

Thanks for the replay,

I fixed the bend control, and somehow worked around the geo shell issue for now, but Ill remember the script.

Hello guys.
I just started using Daz 3D and tried rendering a few images, but all of them were really grainy. I tried experimenting with lights, scenes and tone mapping but nothing seemed to help. Recently I tried different render settings based on tutorials I saw, however the results were basically identical and both of them took about 5 minutes to render.

Here are the 1. render settings I tried + the result
render1.png test.jpg

... and here are the 2. settings + the almost identical result

render2.png test2.jpg

As you can see it doesn't look great and I'm not sure what else I should try.

Would someone be willing to share their render settings and/or some tips for less grainy renders? I want to try to make a 3D game in the future and I see so many high quality renders w/ sharp details etc. that are shared here, so I figured I should ask for help. Also links to any helpful tutorials are welcome, Thanks.

There's a lot more going on here than just render settings. Lighting, the types of lighting being used, reflections, environments, the hardware you're rendering with, the time needed to render, and so forth. It could be whatever you're using in this render, but it looks like there's something glossy (like a piece of glass) with a reflection right in front of her.

Have you tried watching any tutorials on lighting, posing, environments, etc.? Before worrying about render settings, learn how to do some basic lighting as that'll significantly help the grain. Grain can also be pretty hardware dependent, but it's hard to say without seeing your system specs.

In any case, here's my own:

rend.png

But I'm also running two 4090s, so ymmv.

Lighting can make a large difference, but settings wise I would recommend upping the max samples by quite a bit. 500 Is pretty low in my opinion.

Oh, wow. Yeah, completely missed that part. 1080 should at least be 1500, probably closer to 2500-ish for your more typical high-quality render + environment.

Thank you for the reply,
I have seen some tutorials on lightning and environment, but I will definitely try to look into the lightning issue more! Most of the tutorials I saw were quite old or hard to follow for me since I'm not that familiar with Daz yet.

As for my hardware it's i5-13400F, 32GB DD5 RAM, RTX 4070.
