While I agree with you that it would benefit the writing and the story overall if there were more conflict and tension coming from Ethan. And him at least trying to put his foot down if there is something he feels a bit uneasy about.
However I only see it blowing up in his face and making things escalate even more. Otherwise the route would end, or branch into another "redemption of Ethan" route. No thank you, no more alternative routes. There is already more than the developer can reasonably handle.
Nat can play so many angles if this scenario were to happen, "this was your idea to begin with" , "what about my fantasies, I have desires too".
Now if Ethan had a backbone here, he would give her an ultimatum, and if she didn't accept it, he would leave.
But this is the cuckold route, even more so if you play the Ethan-submissive route. Ethan has no job and he has a hard time satisfying his wife in bed. It would make 0 sense for Ethan to suddenly grow a pair and take the reins, unless you are looking for some sort of a redemption arc, but if you are playing this route you probably aren't looking for that. In fact that would ruin it.
So Ethan would bend if pushed by Nat, she would probably be sweet about it and not super confrontational like in my examples above. She would just slowly try to move the barrier of what Ethan is comfortable with. But she does have a new-found confidence now, and certainly a new side of herself has been revealed thanks to Ethan.
So who knows...I could see her putting Ethan under her heel, if she wanted too. But Ethan hasn't really given her any reason to do that, so far. For the most part Ethan is extremely supportive of her every move. He only express some mild discomfort in his own head, never to her directly. And it's always followed by intense excitement.
But I agree with you, I would enjoy Ethan trying to grow a backbone and starting an argument with Nat. But the outcome of that altercation is where we fundamentally have two different opinions, at least when it comes to this particular route.

Of course there are some routes which can lead to Nat falling for Darrel romantically, why shouldn't she? Let's consider that in those paths he's not only giving her the best sex of her life, but also starting to support her emotionally, and now even economically (yes, probably for his own selfish reasons), in ways Ethan isn't being capable of. So she has two suitors and one is much more successful, self-confident, endowed, supportive (at least in appearance), fit and assertive than the other... For many women that would seem a no-brainer choice and fail to see that Darrel can have his own agenda (if that's truly the case and he doesn't end up falling for Nat also).
It's not precisely my favorite route, but at least I'm happy it isn't just another porn-case of a woman becoming cock-crazy with the first big sausage thrown at her. IMHO a lot more things are going on and King B is managing to paint a picture a bit more nuanced than that.

Well, truth be told: I wouldn’t bet a lot on Darrel seeing Nat as much more than another one of his conquests, or sexdolls as you put it. It could happen and maybe the author has something like that in mind. I just don’t think it’s very probable…
Nonetheless, and that was my main point before, even that doesn’t immediately mean that Nat wouldn’t prefer him over his spineless cum eating probably unemployed husband (which is exactly what Ethan is in that quite specific route).
And more than that, even in less “extreme” routes in my regard the big issue remains: opening the couple to other sex partners (especially in the cuckold paths, we’ll see what happens in the, as of now, only hinted swinger route) was a slippery slope. We had another example of that in the first college party, in that path Darrel is more or less out of the picture, and Ethan can be more assertive and even dominant, having some backbone: but anyway Nat can be easily tempted (mind you: if the player chooses it) by a cocky douche and ends up being finger fucked in the hallway. Go figure…
Some have said that was out of character for Nat, but in fact is not a choice available in the vanilla or even the nat reluctant paths, only in the cuckold one. And imho in that route it makes sense Nat might show little restraint, bad judgment and make some questionable choices. Maybe with time the couple learn to see Nat’s bulls as nothing more than walking dildos and avoid unhealthy picks, but until then… Is a slippery slope, as I said. And that’s fine in my book, as I think it adds some drama and spice to the story.

Could see Darrel falling for Nat, in his own way. He would likely never change being a playboy but ... Nat could easily fall for Darrel (already has to some extent), it's even hinted that will be a choice. She knows what his lifestyle entails, so she wouldn't be going in blind, but women often equate great sex with romance and think they can "change" a man, much to her own emotional detriment when he's comfortable with the status quo.
