Yea, (I) wanted Ethan to be a man about their relationship, until he acts like a sissy boi. Then all the bets are off.
Same here. Probably because I don’t self-insert that much while playing these kind of games (I prefer that term than identifying, certainly I didn’t identify with Patrick Bateman while reading American Psycho or with Tony Soprano, and that doesn’t mean I think is bad writing) beyond a certain point in a character behavior I’m perfectly fine with them getting what they deserve.
And that leads me again to Nat. Ethan gets a lot of shit here and it’s well deserved, in many routes he just lacks the bare minimum backbone, but it appears to me that Nat more easily gets a free pass (in more than one sense, heh). She also in many routes -not so much in others, but those are fewer- looks like a closet size queen, her explicit disdain for bad boys seems a bit of posturing at best and just hypocritical at worst, isn’t shy about going behind his husband back and can even boycott his efforts to grow a spine when it doesn’t suit her needs. That woman can be a walking red flag!
What I mean is that they are, or can be, both flawed characters (and I don’t see that as a bad thing story-wise, if anything it can make them more interesting) and maybe the foundations of their relationship weren’t that solid. So… maybe in a sense they don’t “deserve” a happy ending together (again, in some/many routes).
