I think you misunderstand something fundamental here. What you describe are actions taken or not taken by the character themselves.
It's nonsense, because it literally would make no sense for Orb to have that happen, and yes, I do get to call something nonsense if I don't like it, because I've provided sound logical reasoning multiple times.
It makes sense to have the "threat" of it happening - Perfectly in character with John, as it would also be another means by which he can ruin the MC, but that's completely different from it actually happening.
