You can spend two updates on this instead of five - for example, and move the plot into development and not to stagnation!

Not necessarily. Occasionally, people have perfectly good reasons for cheating on their partners. Even to the point, where they don't understand why they're doing it.
Most people in these games start cheating, because their partners don't treat them very well or spend too much time working, instead of investing enough in their relationships, or just don't communicate very well, and subsequently misinterpret their needs. There's usually a good reason, but they always make poor choices. They never do the obvious thing, which would be, if you don't treat me better or spend more time with me, I'm going to leave you, or this is what you should do in future, if you want us to stay together. But sometimes people have issues, that are completely unrelated to their partners, and end up having sex with other people, for reasons they don't fully understand. I'm talking about traumatic events, buried psychological issues and depression. In those instances I don't think it's necessarily a betrayal.
Also, if the victim for whatever reason doesn't view it as a betrayal, then it isn't. If you're a cuck for instance, and you derive sexual pleasure from your partner cheating on you. Then it's not really betrayal is it. Because they're doing something, that you want them to do.
