I cannot stress enough how common "friends" like Chris are. Have a pretty GF/wife? Know that at least one friend is actively trying to fuck her. Would do it in a heartbeat and is actively looking for chances to do so.
I know first hand. I already talked about the VN I might make about my cousin that had this happen to him. I was like his little brother, around him and his friends all the time and watched as half of them tried to varying degrees and success to get with his GF (now wife).
Christ types are real af, no matter how angry they may make a reader/player. I like how real it is.
I'd say that at some point, in 80% of cases if a male is in contact with a female whether she has a partner or not, there will be a sympathy/chemistry on one side or another at some point in life. Maybe today, maybe next year, maybe in 2035. You just have to not act on that for a week/month and that's it - you're back to being "husband's friend" and "friend's wife" or, in simple terms, friends.
Had this thing happening to me last year. My bestie and his wife visit me from time to time and I visit them. At some point, I started to notice the excited looks she had during our talks when there were three of us and later had similar thing for her - like, "oh they're coming! I'll get to talk to her!"Neither me nor her ever acted on that and now we're back to making clumsy jokes about me being ugly and her being chubby(none of us are). I may be reading the room totally wrong and the sympathy could've been only on my side, but regardless.
Things like that probably happened to each of us even in teenage years: there's Jen. You like her and could ask her out, but your friend Tom is obsessed with her. So instead of asking her out yourself you try to be his wingman.
That's what being a friend is, imo.
Unfortunately, there are opportunists like Chris IRL. Lots of them. But luckily, my circle of friends isn't like that. And I'm proud both of myself and them.
His character role is being a disgusting prick . I hate his guts and that simply shows that writing is great in here. Also, it's very cool that there is character like Jake in there. Like, yeah - playboy, who's lost within himself and doesn't really know what he wants. Having a "switch" character who can be somewhat closer to a good guy on one path and straight up playboy who only thinks with his penis on another is great.
My favorite though is probably Marvin. The dude is the weakest of them all in terms of power - both physical and as character. He plays sad old guy role and deep inside Anna knows herself that it's just a facade, but she just can't stop herself. Would've loved Marvin path to be the one where Anna's in control in terms of how things go and eventually succumbs to putting this weak man under her heel.
Dunno why I've written it, just wanted to share. Bros before girls, right?
