We know the main event will be the afterwork cocktails.
But it's the other things that happen that makes the next update interesting. But we don't know what they are.
A good writing strategy breaks down to something like 40-50% focus on the main event of that chapter and 30-40% setting up the next two chapters with the last 10-20% to introduce something new. For the sake of argument, the last 10-20% reintroduces Marcel. The intent would be to say have his first main role to start within say 1-3 chapters away and each update more and more effort goes into the "Marcel" content. I just use that as an example.
But of the 20-40% spent on setting up the next two chapters, what we are going to get is:
*More David and Anna conflict
*some kind of interaction with some of the main characters
*more development of Anna's character
*surprises!
Now when it comes to surprises like Timothy and Dale, having too many of them puts the reader(player) on guard expecting surprises.
