I disagree. It’s not just his game; it’s also the game funded by all his patrons. Without them, there wouldn’t be a game at all.
So, as a developer, you have the duty to continue the project if you respect your patrons. (Just to be clear, I'm speaking in general. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone. I just got five game updates today, four of which were tagged as abandoned, so... I'm a bit annoyed. )

Whatever, I just hope to keep seeing updates for this game that I really enjoy!

I mean in terms of telling the dev how to develop his game - or in the case of this guy, "I don't think you're moving fast enough, give your game to someone else to continue." To be fair, it's usually telling the dev they need to add x content or stop y content, and that's one thing, but there's nothing that gives a player (Patron or otherwise) the right to tell the dev to eff off and have someone else take over.

Patreon entitlement arguments come up all the time in various threads, so I'm not going to touch that specific element of your comment here.

The script is the most complicated part and APM is above average in difficulty.
One starts a game and thinks he can handle it, the reality is a bit different. If you don't make enough money to make a living from it, chances are high that the "abandoned" tag will appear.
I'm not saying he's doing a bad job, far from it, but if this is Mr. Palmer's first time writing a story, I mean, if he doesn't have the writing bug.... things will get stuck.

I don't think he had issues with 'not making enough money' from his game, so that can't be an argument at this point.

If you earn enough money, this will become your job and you can spend your 8h/day, time spent with your family stays the same. What's happening with MrPalmer is that the game cuts into his free time, and that doesn't work in the long run.
It may be a hobby for him, but in this case we can expect this game to be spread over a long period of time.

The question is what does TeamEquipe like to read? And how did Mr. Palmer end up at TeamEquipe? I mean, do the two of them share common tastes? If so, we could approximate the direction in which APM will go.

And that's the minimum—I suppose it's probably around double that. So who couldn't make this their main job while earning $3,000 per month? Honestly, I could do it, and I live in a 'rich' country.
So if he really wanted to, he could live making only this. Thus the "not enough money" for him is not an argument imo.

Yeah, nothing personal - I just see arguments all the time with people thinking Patreon is one thing, and therefore getting all uppity about what other people are paying for and receiving/not receiving, when Patreon is actually something completely different!

Yup, no worries—we can all think differently.

I get what you mean about Patreon; people often have different expectations about what it should be. As a fellow dev, even though I don’t blindly follow what players want, I still take a lot of my patrons' comments into account. And as a fellow player, I expect other devs to do the same. But maybe I’m a bit biased. ^^'

Anyway, let’s not go too off-topic. Long live this game, and I hope it continues to thrive!

He really didn't need to pause payment. He could have told his artist to continue creating scenes of left out story and for the next update. This way or the way he's doing now, the update will already be delayed anyways because he didnt get time, which is absolutely fine...But for the next update, artist could have finished with few renders at least for the next update too. And let the artist work. That's advantage of outsourcing work. Who knows if he take 2 months of break, artist will complete the next update renders too. And all he needs to do is programming.

Why pay attention to errors and shortcomings in images such as black dots-water!

I think that's where we see different kinds of people: those who just want to sell a product and those who truly want to create an experience.

Some developers see Patreon or SubscribeStar as a means to an end—an income stream that allows them to maintain a comfortable status quo. They deliver just enough to keep their audience engaged without necessarily pushing themselves to improve. And as long as the financial support continues to flow, there’s little incentive for them to change.

Then, there are those who see game development as a passion, an art form, or even a challenge. For them, every detail matters, every update is an opportunity to refine their craft, and player feedback—whether positive or critical—is a tool for growth. They strive to create something meaningful, not just something that will ‘sell.’

Of course, financial stability plays a role in how much time and energy a dev can dedicate to their project. But at the end of the day, the real difference lies in intent. Some devs are satisfied with doing the bare minimum, while others feel a genuine responsibility toward their audience and their own creative vision.

That’s why you’ll always see a split: some games stagnate for years while others evolve, improve, and leave a lasting impact. It all depends on which type of creator is behind them.
