I think you missed the difference between the two, in Her Desire she is around people who are bit a little bit less reserved and people she has known for a long time.
In AWAM Sophia is living in a new city, where the temperature is a lot warmer than she is used to and people wear more revealing clothing than she is used to, she doesn't know too many people, just her neighbours and her sister, everyone she meets is more open in their sexuality than she is used to, she is slowly being 'corrupted' into this way of life.
