Personally I think dev is working in the background to get the game completed to put it on steam, this way his Patreons are currently funding the work but as soon as its put on Steam everyone will have to pay!!

So True. I've been saying the same thing. If I'm in L&P shoes, I would stay 2 or 3 releases ahead so that I take into account any issues or emergencies in my life that can cause prolonged delays in making a release and not lose any Patreons.
