Fuck me, what a rollercoaster this one...

After falling in love with DrPinkCake's writing in DIK I wanted to take a quick peek at Acting Lessons in the late evening yesterday.
But I got completely hooked and went down the whole (mostly) faithful Megan path until I reached the bitterswet end at 4:30 in the morning.

And damn, even after 20+ years of mostly story-focused gaming, not to mention consumption of countless books and movies, I'd be hard pressed to name even just half a dozen works that hit me as hard in the feelings as AL.
This one got the waterworks going on more than one occasion and for all the sad and happy reasons.

I have no doubt this experience will stay with me and be part of me for a long, long time to come.
As this game has actually something to say about life and love.

And contrary to what some have written, at least with the story I got out of it it's a message of hope...

Only one other game nearly broke me as bad as this one did, and I keep saying it in this thread; the game still stings after a couple of years of playing it and only doing the Megan route. It's still gets the emotions running whenever I do play it.

People were scared with DIK thinking something cataclysmic was (and still could) going to happen, but we still have at least 3-5 years of that game, but even DPC something like it won't repeat, but that doesn't mean we can't have scares.

People were scared with DIK thinking something cataclysmic was (and still could) going to happen, but we still have at least 3-5 years of that game, but even DPC something like it won't repeat, but that doesn't mean we can't have scares.

Yeah, DIKs tone is quite different from AL. I don't really see DPC pulling another Ep6/7/8 on us in that game. We'll certainly see a good few more "Oh No!"s to keep the drama and suspense going, but I'd be mightily surprised if it'd reach AL's level.

Also, not having heard of it before, I'm not sure whether to be delighted or scared by those "3 to 5 years". It's good to hear there's a lot more content coming, but damn, that wait will be a bitch...

Huh, didn't have this on my radar at all. Taking a quick look at its f95 thread, people seem to be quite enthusiastic about it. Guess I'll have to take a closer look in time. Would it sound weird to say I'm looking forward to learning about Cece's and appearently your presumably sad / tragic story?

For the moment though, after four runs through Acting Lessons and about as many packs of tear-filled tissues, I feel the need for a bit of a break from the emotional stuff. As you said before, this one keeps on giving, even if you're aware of what's around the corner.
Was surprised by how much I liked Rena's path, ignoring the lead-Megan-on-until-the-only-option-is-to-thoroughly-break-her-heart-part. Maybe because I met a few girls like her IRL.
Convinced me even more this is anything but a sad game. Just as hard as it works to throw you down to the floor, it works to pick you back up and hammer hope back into your brain.

The best story that I ever read. It was a masterpiece. The story alone has so many twist that made my jaw dropped and so many comedy that I even laughed. I think Dr Pink Cake is a genius, the sex scene is just like a bonus, but the story alone.. man.. it was the most amazing story for adult VN.

Yeah, DPC really has the gift to create stories and imho in particular characters that break through to the reader, even in the less serious BaDIK. Feels like there is a genuine love for both the people inside these stories and those outside reading them.
It's almost laughable, though certainly not surprising, how big of gap there is to all the empty, soulless shit the big entertainment industries predominantly produce with billions upon billions of dollars of effort.

In the day and age we live in there's too much sadness in the real world. I just want a story that has the quality and compelling/lovable characters like AL without the heartbreak. It just hits home a bit too much on Megan's path, I dated a girl just like her in high school and it's just really depressing. I just want some emotional happy endings ffs.

There's several games out there I'm playing that have that (for now) but one of them in particular takes you down pretty far before raising you back up. It messed me up more than this game has, but it's on the path for the final chapter (next update) to be pretty damn emotionally uplifitng.

I'm trying to unlock achievements related to Liam. One guide mentions that you must have 4,5 or 5 pancakes with Liam to unlock them. At the end of Episode 3, I have 4 stars and he has kept huge secret from me.
Which choice did I do wrong?

Acting Lessons hits everyone in the guts hard when they first play it. I've been at it for almost two years now, and it still stings every so often.

As for Liam, I personally can't help you there. I tend to ignore him when I play but I'm sure someone who is more Liam-friendly could help out.

I totally respect that others have different experiences, but am I the only one who wasn't absolutely devastated by the fire? I mean, sure, the choice (or non-choice) sucks, but it didn't ruin my day or playthrough, so to speak.

I know some players that didn't give a shit about the fire. I know some, like me, were whimpering under the covers for a few days. It hits everyone their own way.

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone, although I wouldn't go so far as saying I didn't care at all. To each their own experience.
