Now, assuming all that’s more or less accurate here’s some mechanics and other stuff I’d love to see in the game in no particular order:
A “Living” World- the Marvel Universe is a complicated place with dozens of groups of heroes, villains, cults, and aliens all with their own agendas crashing into one another. It’d be a lot of fun watching Loki and his crew get caught in the crossfire and have to choose a side while not knowing who to trust. It could also be fun giving the players the option to join select organizations (like the Hellfire Club, The Cabal, Hydra, or the Hand) and work their way up the ranks. This sounds like a VERY long term programming goal, though.
Morality system- Nothing too complicated, I’d just like it if some choices you make in game give you either a positive or negative reputation. Reputation could effect how npc’s react to you in conversations as well as unlocking new quests. Additionally, having a positive reputation could make it easier to seduce heroes while having a negative rep would make it easier to recruit villains.
Fixed time limit- In Something Unlimited you have pretty much unlimited time to do everything, but for L.O.K.I I like the idea that you’re under a fixed time limit to get the Stones before some other villain gets to them. For instance, if each turn is one week, perhaps players have 4 months to grab the first stone. If players fail to get it in the allotted time, they’re treated to a cutscene of Thanos capturing it before the game resumes. They can still beat the game, but now Thanos will be that much tougher in the final battle. For players who find that too stressful, they could adjust how much time they have to get each stone in the difficulty options at the start of the game.
Make the Bar Fun- Don’t get me wrong, I like Something Unlimited. But if I had to level a criticism at it, it would be that it’s a business management game where it’s not fun to manage your business. Regrettably, I don’t have a ton of ideas to make managing the bar fun, but just shooting from the hip, I’d make it so that minions have stats that are separate from their combat stats that monitor how well they do in the Bar. For instance, Personality could determine how well they work as a bartender/waitress/hostess, Sultriness could determine how well they would do in a strip/burlesque show, and Sexiness could determine how well they do in the bordello. In addition, they could have a stamina stat which would slowly decrease over time, gradually giving them penalties. When a character’s stamina reaches zero, they can no longer work in the bar or go on missions until they have rested and recovered some stamina. I think this would encourage players to pay attention to the Bar without having to micromanage it.
Also having random events trigger occasionally when you enter the bar could keep it interesting. Nothing major, just little scenes that add flavor to the game, like you overhearing two supervillains talking about a heist they're about to pull, or one of your workers comes up to you demanding that you eject Dr. Octopus from the bar because he keeps pinching her ass. Stuff like that.
Capturing a Hero should be a big deal- I like the idea that you must fight a hero before you can brainwash them, as opposed to just hiring a villain to do it for you. Much more memorable.
Character Codex- Having a computer or magic tome with information on each character we encounter in the game that updates as we learn more about them would be super useful for players who aren’t as knowledgeable about the marvel universe, or those who have put the game down for a while before returning to it (“Oh yeah, I forgot that Sue Storm has a voyeurism fetish in this game. Creepy.”) It’s also a useful worldbuilding tool, as your Marvel universe is going to be different from both the comics and the movies and this could be a great way to introduce us to it.
...And that's all I've got right now. Sorry if I mentioned something you already confirmed would be in the game. I'm glad you guys are making progress, best of luck to you!
