I downloaded the old version 13 (last RPGMaker version) about 3 weeks ago, played a little, and put it on hold because it was too tedious to run around for every phase of the day. Just today I casually picked it back up, played through most of the content, and... I just want to say I'm really impressed by the potential! And so, despite being unfinished, I can at least say I'm happy I played it.
The animations are simple but nice. The lengthy LexCorp movie with a synthetic voice and lip syncing was an especially cool surprise. (It's not exactly Pixar levels of production quality, but this is a porn game, and I don't think I've seen anything like it in games of a similar genre. Maybe Hornstown will eventually evolve to have this, since it's started to have animated avatars.) The theme is fresh, it's like the setting of a Metrobay Comix story which is fetishized superheroines and BDSM, but mixed with (at least, in the beta path I went for) the sissy/genderbender/humiliation sandbox genre. Some of the fun situations I was able to encounter that I can remember of the top of my mind:
Negatives, of course, are the bugs literally everywhere, as broken conversation choices, failed game state transitions, improperly displayed images, a map full of doors I can't enter, and walking through solid objects. And it takes way more time than I'd like to travel from one place in the city to the other, just to go through a repetitive daily routine. But aside from the latter point, none of the flaws truly affected my ability to enjoy it, since I knew in advance it was very much incomplete.
From what someone else said, the dev team moved from RPGMaker to Twine largely because the person who was scripting it left the team, right? I can't blame them. With a game this buggy, it could have been just as much work to fix it and learn RPGMaker as to learn another engine. I agree that Ren'Py would have been nicer than Twine... I assume the dev team just went with what was easiest. Ren'Py may be relatively easy, but Twine is even easier. And it's traditionally the engine of choice for most of other sissy/transitioning sandbox games like Secretary, TSGE, Peverted Education, etc. So I do
understand it, even if it's not ideal. Anyway, development may be slow, but since the Patreon continues to exist, I hope the devs will continue to work at this game and let it realize its potential.
