It feels like the same developer is working on them! The names of those developers are the same, that one is Alex, and this one is shortened to Alex. And the habits with game reworking are the same in the Big Brother game by Alex, as in this one with Amnesia.

The update speed of the game "Amnesia" is much faster than that of "Big Brother: Another Story Rebuild". The author of "Big Brother" basically updates it twice a year. It is incredible that the sandbox game has been updated for several years but the game length is only more than 4 hours.

No, you don't missed anything. In the original version, she also leaves (as I understand it, forever). Only the developer can say what will happen here. In my opinion (which does not pretend to be the ultimate truth), the fewer characters the better, I hope she does not return. Except in flashbacks. Maybe, thanks to them, we will understand how MC ended up in rehab.
